The Fifth Element (1997) - forgettable
Blade Runner 2049 (2017) - looks good and who cares
Parasite (2019) - HAVE NOT SEEN IT
The Godfather: Part II (1974) - If you like the first one, somehow this "sequel" is just as good.
Tombstone (1993) - yawn
Goodfellas (1990) - shrug; kinda essential how could you miss it (unless intentional)? I see it all the time on TV... with commercials.
No Country for Old Men (2007) - What the...? Unusual in numerous ways. If you see any, see

I rarely pick movies because of an actor's involvement. Mitchum is a plus, but I'm more interested in it because it's a noir directed by Jacques Tourneur with an excellent reputation.
I honestly think anyone could do without SALO. It's a curiosity, but I'm pretty sure you will hate it.
I think the people who are putting CODA on their lists can scratch it off, unless you have a particular interest in deaf culture. Very predictable pandering-to-the-audience stuff you've seen a hundred times before.

THE GREAT DICTATOR is not a silent movie. 1940. It's a spoof of hitler.
Top Gun (I won't see Maverick until I've seen the original)
What Have You Done To Solange (1972)
The Man Who Fell To Earth (original)
Liquid Sky (1982)
Tokyo Olympiad (1964)
Inseminoid (1981)
There are a lot more, but those are off the top of my head.

Priority in my stack:
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
Heat (1995)
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973)
Videodrome (1983)
Falling Down (1993)
Brazil (1985)
Double Indemnity (1944)
Coonskin (1974)
Police Story (1985)
CLERKS (1994)
Everyone seems to love this movie. I don't know anything about it except comic book nerd Kevin Smith is in it.
I like old comic books!

The original Top Gun was on TV this Sunday, so I made sure to watch it. So that's one crossed off the list. I was very pleasantly surprised, as I had little idea of the plot apart from the presence of Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis. What also surprised me was how many lines and turns of phrase from the movie had made it into popular culture, like Val Kilmer scoffing 'bulls33t' into his hand, talking about writing cheques his body can't cash, etc. Seeing a movie of such pupularity from the 80s for the first time was like a wonderful kind of time machine, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So on to Maverick!
I managed to find the original director's cut of Tokyo Olympiad on the official Olympic website, at over two hours and forty minutes long. The documentary was reportedly cut by the distributor to about 2 hours on first release because it had a more artistic style than the distributors were looking for.

CASABLANCA is one of the best Hollywood films of that era: implausible, great setups, great character actors, kind of silly, humorous and speedy. If you are okay with black and white, it's highly recommended.
2001 is a great movie that many recommend, forgetting their initial reaction to it: boring. I love it. Highly recommended.
GONE WITH THE WIND is great but long, dated, and a bit corny, these days, not for everyone.
CLEOPATRA (assume you mean the 1963
LIZ TAYLOR) is high camp, fun to look at, ridiculous.
CASINO is great. Violent. Highly recommended.
RC has
DIRTY HARRY spot on. Highly recommended.

Any "Star Trek" after "II"
Star Wars episodes "II" and "III"

AVATAR - you're not missing much, worth a watch in theaters for the spectacle, less so at home
KARATE KID - Enjoyable but not essential
CASABLANCA - already discussed, I would say the best movie on this list by a wide margin
CITIZEN KANE - you'll probably hate it, most people do  It's a movie of tremendous historical importance for the development of film as an art form.
"Bourne" movies - I've never seen these either
"Episodes II & III - They're an improvement over "I" for sure! If you haven't seen them yet you're obviously not a STAR WARS completist
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE sequels - these are surprisingly good. If you like modern James Bond you will surely like these.

Mission Impossible: Fall Out is IMO the best - there's a stunt in it where Tom Cruise was jumping from one building to another and ended up breaking his ankle. They actually kept the shot in the film! :buggedout:

My mom might have the DVD. She's got a bunch of older flicks laying around.
Our visitor loves horror films, but has seen hardly any of them. Last night we watched Lost Boys and Beetlejuice, but next I am going to show her The Thing and The Fog. I'll need to come up with an essential watch list for her.
Show her the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. :buggedout:
So far I have The Thing, The Fog, Jaws, Alien and Evil Dead. TCM might be a bit much for her.

I have a story about 2001 which I've told before, but it has been many years, so I'll tell it again.
For most of my life, I had heard of 2001 but never seen it. 2001 was so influential that references and homages even turned up in the later seasons of Inspector Gadget, with a soft spoken ship's computer, and it featured heavily in one of my favourite books, 'Sci Fi Now', that detailed science fiction throughout the 70s. This movie was spoken of with such reverence and fervour that sooner or later, it had to be seen.
One day in the 90s, 2001 was scheduled to screen on TV, which became the perfect opportunity to watch it. Excitedly, I even handwrote an invitation to my brother to a televisual event to take place in the TV room, and I drew a space station and stars in coordination with the mood. We had bowls of chips, and settled in as the movie began to roll.
We didn't get it at all.
It was so slow, nothing really seemed to happen, or if it did it was as a glacial pace. The ending was bizarre and left more question than answers. We looked at each other as if to say, 'WTH did we just watch?'. In fact, we said it aloud, too.
In later years, my brother watched it again and deeply appreciated it. I watched it as well, not quite with the same appreciation, but a lot more than before. So if you plan to eventually see 2001, bear in mind that it is a slow, cerebral movie that will make you think.

Mean Streets is one of my all-time favorites. Just a bunch of New York street guys hanging around and getting into various predicaments. Most of it takes place in a very cool, dimly lit, 1970s style bar. Keitel and DeNiro are great and there are other familiar faces like David and Robert Carradine lurking around. Plus, the soundtrack is excellent.
