Why couldn't comedy central have kept Strangers with Candy for another season instead of making this?

In short, it maby an ego thing. This is what happens when comics try to pontificate. They become their own straightmen, with a shortage of punchlines. Sad, realy.

From what I've heard, they would have made the show even if Al Gore had gotten elected. Its just supposed to be a spoof of sitcoms. I didn't think it was terrible, but there must be something better to parody than bad sitcoms.
