Title: Eve Plumb (Brady Bunch) filmography
Post by: lester1/2jr on December 22, 2022, 05:17:18 PM
I was watching a Brady Bunch documentary and they noted that in the "Brady Bunch Variety Show" Jan was missing. This was apparently due to her having some success as an actress outside of the Brady Bunch, so I've decided to see what that's all about. started off with

"Force of Evil" (1977 made for tv) - There is not much Plumb in this endeavor, but it's okay. A murderer/ rapist is freed then seeks to exact revenge on Lloyd Bridges, a doctor at the hospital where he worked who he wanted to somehow vouch for him to escape prosecution for the crime, which makes very little sense. Eve is the daughter so of course she draws the killer's attention. It's a very low grade Cape Fear rip off and Bridges talks too much. like a Sea Hunt episode that somehow ends up being a CHiPS episode.

One weird thing was when Plumb greats both her Dad and her uncle with a kiss on the lips. She must have been really bored filming this...so check it out if you're into that kind of thing but otherwise...

2.99/ 5 it's ok but not very original or creative.

also caught

The Swimmer / Hitman - this was an unusually tame Fantasy Island episode featuring Eve Plumb as a swimmer who was in a car accident and now can't swim or walk. Peter Graves is her Dad and the other half has the Charlie's angels assistant to Charlie guy and Carmine Ragu from Laverne and Shirley. She gets a lot more lines and focus in this, but it's not a classic episode. Plus, the kids she is swim training can all seem to use their legs?

not a classic episode but high Plumb factor so

Next I will be watching what seems to be her biggest one: a movie about a teenage runaway who is I guess her? We'll find out

That was a jolt. Seeing her name in the heading I thought for a second you were going to tell us she'd died

Dawn: Portrait of a Teenage runaway (1976) - This was definitely better and more of an overt Plumb vehicle than Force Of Evil. Maybe TOO much of one though. The whole thing felt like an extended acting class more than an actual movie. Yeah we get it, Jan is slightly smarter than Marsha and can pull off a semi engaging part by being half wholesome and half slutty. There's just not much in the way of memorable color, scenery, dialogue, etc

love interest was not very hetero seeming. I would have liked them better as 2 dopey best buds. In those days normal people didn't go down to Times Square to see blaxploitation movies, so it kind of makes sense that those people would watch this extremely tame "late night" fare

print on youtube was pretty crappy and the close captioning was in Spanish so I missed some of the dialogue. Some okay stuff but I'm not yet ready to fight a revolution to establish a Plumbocracy

3.25/ 5

It's been a long time since I saw "Born Innocent" but it's not as good as that

The Artist and the Lady/ Elizabeth's Baby - another, later Fantasy Island episode starring the Plumbster this time in a slightly more adult and ridiculous scenario.

Ralph Malth (mouth?) from Happy Days is in one segment and it's an okay but pretty dumb story about an art teacher wanting to be a great artist for a weekend. Monkeys paw style shenanagins ensue. "Elizabeth's baby" is proto Medium with believability being thrown out the window in favor of a crazy time machine situation involving prostitutes in the future. Malth seems to have a better sense that his time as an actor on shows like this is just about up.

the more adult/ ridiculous angle works better for this demented show from this demented era

Don't forget: Alexander: The Other Side of Dawn (1977)

Yeah thats a sequel to Dawn I guess.

I'm in a tough spot now because there are a couple of made for tv movies left and I don't really want to see any of them.

Blue Ruin (2013) - Eve has a role in this but it's not a Plumb one. The movie has aspects of crime/ horror and also of indie sort of cinema. The lead actor does what I call "fancy acting" but it mostly works.

A guy hears someone who wants to kill him is getting out of jail, so he goes to kill him first. There are two families at war over some old feud or other and it dominates their lives.

It's okay with moments that are really pretty good. I would have liked to have gotten to know the other family more, there was certainly a lot about the main guy.

a charitable 4/5  as it is watcheable and clever. the script isn't quite done, but it's close
