Title: ..what an excelent day..
Post by: BadTaste_nz on April 19, 2001, 10:50:18 PM
for an exorcism.

Just saw the Directors cut of the Exorcist today,
heaps of dissapointment, the only scenes that i could pic out that were new (cut from very, very original first screenings) was the Spider Walk scene
(and they didnt even show all of that, Regal is ment to head for the door and get tackled by her mother and some Father, but they only showed her quickly comming down the stairs and blood dripping from her mouth),

the very end scene where the officer guy and the other preists freind walk off to the movies (i knew baout this scene from exorcist.com)
and possibly the Crusifix scene, (my dad says they cut that after he saw it at the cinema when he was a kid) but Im pretty sure i have seen that scene on the old video version at Video Ezy.

maybe there were more demon faces popping up in Regals room.

but other than that, the movie seemed basically the same.

most dissapointmen would have to be the Spider Walk Scene, i would have rather have seen the full version of it, like the one for download at:
http://www.the-exorcist.co.uk/videos.htm

did anyone else think they spotted new (cut from the original) scenes in this movie?
I cant at the moment, but i may remember some after watching the video version again.

Title: From what I am told...

From what I am told they could not show all of the cut sequences due to the soundtracks of these cut sequences being lost. Of course, that is what Warner Brothers says.

THE EXORCIST actually became famous back in 1973 when the "spider walk" sequence was edited out when released. When the rumors started after the films release, it caused great confusion with the public when they saw the film without the "spider walk" sequence. More rumors about the scene started when some critics claimed they saw the scene in foreign versions from Italy, Japan, etc. But unfortunately, the scene wasnot in foreign prints as well.

The "spider walk" scene did scare the hell out of me, but I was disappointed that the whole scene did not remain intact in the films re-issue.

I haven't seen the new cut of the film.  However, I'm told that in addition to the spider walk and the different ending, there's more medical stuff in the hospital scenes at the beginning.   There's also a new dialogue about faith between the two priests sitting on the stairs in between rounds of exorcism.  More brief flashes of satanic faces have also been added.

But anyway, am I the only one who doesn't think The Exorcist is scary at all?  I mean sure, it's a really well made movie, but it just isn't frightening to me in any way.

I love the Pazuzu idol scene at the
beginning of Exorcist...  so abstract,
so creepy.  The rest of the film is
good too, but nothing can touch that.

i never found Exorcist scary, i heard heaps of people in the cinema go "ewww" "ouch" to the Crusifix scene, but..
i think becuase people have seen so much gore and horror they are used to it.  I know i am, show me 'Xtro' and ill just go "cooool"

Eshu could kick Pazuzu's butt.
