Title: Once Upon a Time in China **
Post by: Scott on April 21, 2001, 08:30:11 AM
I recently only seen half of ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA, then i had to return the tape. It was a martial arts film starring Jet Li playing one of China's legendary hero's when photography, firearms, and trains were beginning to influence the country. The first part of the movie was an ok film with some historically minded developements in China, but the martial arts scenes were bland and cluttered with people and average action.  For those of you who liked this film was it the second half that made this film exceptional?

My Favorite Jet Li films to date are:

Fist of Legend
Black Mask
Twin Warriors

Interesting: 3
Action: 2

5 being the highest.

The last half is the frigging best!

Theres almost a 20 minute battle taking place in a factory. It has ladders, ropes, all sorts of good stuff.

Ok, thanks ScottDavis. I was just wondering. I was having trouble watching this with my 12 year old martial arts daughter. It wasn't hitting the right spots for us. Usually a film can grab your attention sooner. Something about the lighting and cluttered scenes that turned us off as both movie and martial arts fans. I promise to try again another day with this film.

I had that problem with it too.

If you can stick it out throughthe first half, you'll be greatly awarded in the second. Usually the way it goes for most martial arts movies.
