Title: 24 hour Wrestling Channel
Post by: Scott on April 21, 2001, 11:21:47 AM
There has been some recent interest in a 24 hour Wrestling Channel in the future. Since Vince McMahan has recently  bought the compitition WCW and their video library that may date back to the late 70's.

Imagine seeing all the wrestling greats from 20 + years ago in their prime. Like Ric Flair, Andre the Giant, Dusty Rhodes, Superstar Billy Graham, Harley Race, Dory Funk, Nick Bockwinkel, Abdullah the Butcher, Brusier Brody, Shiek, Gorgeous George, etc.

A perfect match would be a B-Movie Channel and a Pro Wrestling Channel. We would all be watching TV all day and night. It would be insane, but great.

I can barely even watch 2 hours of RAW as it is. 24 hours would kill me!

Last night I tape some old footage of wrestling with the Fabulous Ones, Mr. Saito, Blackjack Lanza, Billy Robinson, and a few more. I will watch it tonight to find out more about this program that I'm hoping will be a weekly thing on that channel.

I bumped into Mr. Saito in 1982 on the Atlantic City boardwalk. He asked me were he could get a hot dog. about 5 years later he and Ken Patera got arrested for destroying a McDonalds because they had just closed and wouldn't serve them. The police showed up and they proceeded by beating up the police. They went to jail for a number of years. Nethier returned to the ring with the same amount of popularity or influence in the business.

I would order a wrestling channel in a heartbeat. I'm a huge wrestling fan, but hate it at its current attitude state. I don't know why so many people gripe over 80s wwf at least we got matches that lasted longer then 5 minutes and had characters you could laugh at. Those are my glory days of wrestling when I first started to watch in 1987 or so. 24 hour wrestling channel would be great just as long as they DON"T limit it to the wwf, wcw in the past 4 years then just throw in a few older things.

I just viewed a show this weekend that showed "old school" wrestlers. It is just as entertaining as all the high risk shows they do now days. The wrestling from the past knew how to set simple armbars and they knew how to sell it to the audience.

I think that what may have happened in the late 80's and early 90's is that they stopped with the blood baths of the 70's and early 80's because of AIDS and leaned toward the flashy high risk stuff . Also they may have changed to get more national exposer because larger networks won't allow that kind of gore. The outcome was(is) fixed, but the blood (juice) was very real. They use to cut themselves with razors during a match.

But again Pro Wrestling really fits in with all this B-Movie atmosphere. They make a good match up for a 24 hour channel.

To be honest, cramming wrestling down the throats of the TV watchers out there, wouldn't be a good thing in the long run. People would be sick of wrestling, and besides, WHERE THE HELL IS THE WRESTLING? All it is anymore, is sports entertainment. Give me the good old days of Macho Man, Hulk Hogan, and the mid 80's.
