Title: Quatermass 2 a.k.a Enemy from space....
Post by: Flangepart on April 23, 2001, 10:35:45 AM
1957> Anchor bay  Hammer Classics series.<  Things i learned from this film!:: Zombified humans are realy bad shots....Newspaper reporters are more fun drunk...Economics is an underraited way to discover your planet is being invaded....Never argue with a zombified man holding a submachine gun(at close range)....Blonds are hard of hearing....50 year old rocket scientest  can realy beat feet....The Thompson submachine gun is the wepon of choice for your invading space entity.....When you clobber the evil zombiefied thugs, take their wepons!....and finaly, Shell oil will rent out its refinerys for film companys.  All in all, not a bad follow up to the first Brian Donlevey take on Quatermass. Val Quest directs, and shares writing credits with Nigel Kneale. Incl. Trailer at end. Recomended for the Borntreger Collection!

I love Quatermass 2!!!!  (I love all the Quatermass movies, but that's beside the point).

Favorite B-movie moments:

When the distance shots of Prof. Quatermass running around the Shell Refinery are obviously a stunt double because he's about 50 POUNDS LIGHTER AND 6 INCHES TALLER!

When the giant amorphous alien blobs are moving around at the end, the bottom of one comes up and you see the waffle-like cross-hatching on the rubber bottom of the costume.

When the "sexy" barmaid in the community center dances a jig.

When the aliens try to trap Quatermass inside the dome and he slips out through the closing door.  Before he gets out the door is closing slowly, but once he slips through it practically slams shut.

Anti-tank guns!

And submachine guns that ra-ta-tat-tat and you hear the sounds of rickocheting bullets, and the sound of the shooting and richocheting is identical in nearly every scene.

On the other hand, Q2 was doing the X-Files thing 40 years before the X-Files: alien invasion, government conspiracy, hidden production facilities.  Really great stuff.
