Title: Big Trouble
Post by: Mofo Rising on October 13, 2002, 01:22:18 AM
Now, it's a bit of bad taste to mention this, but BIG TROUBLE was a very, very minor casualty of September 11.  The movie was set for major release before the tragic events of that day.  There was a major plot point that would have been terrible to release in the months following.  No blame, that's just the way it happened.

Which is unfortunate for this movie, as it is a slight movie in every sense of the term.

Anyway, I was a big fan of the original Dave Barry novel.  ("She wants your soul!")  It was a fun romp in the multi-character interlacing Elmore Leonard sense.  Silly and a lot of fun.  I recommend the novel.

Too bad I can't really recommend the movie.  There's one thing that these crime romps need to make them succesful.  Namely, energy.  Barry Sonnenfield was the director here, and he would seem to be a perfect match.  Now I know these movies have different mileage with different people, but two of his previous movies, MEN IN BLACK and GET SHORTY had energy to spare.  The storys flew all over the place, it was the energy that held it all together.

BIG TROUBLE should have been another one of those, but unfortunately most of the "manic" scenes come across like a dead fish.  Well, maybe not that stinky.

Worth watching if you have nothing else to do, and didnt' pay for it.  At least the movie had Sofia Vergara in it.  And I still enjoy watching Andy Richter get work.

I caught this in the theatre. I loved it!! Plan on adding this one to the collection. It's odd, and silly, but also HI-larious. It's one of the best movies I've seen this year, shoot, it's oneof the best I've seen in quite some time. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out. As an added bonus, there are PLENTY of hot chicks in this. :)
