Title: Weng Weng
Post by: Vermin Boy on November 09, 2002, 01:27:21 AM
Lately I've been thinking about the truly excellent For Your Height Only, and decided I need to know more about its star, 3-foot kung-fu superstar Weng Weng. After some research, I found this site:

http://www.trashvideo.com.au/wengweng.htm

This is a very informative article, with all the information I could really ask for about the guy. One line, however, caught my eye:

"In 1990 he was awarded a special citation for services to the Filipino Film Industry from the first lady Imelda Marcos and joined her at the presentation in a special karaoke 'duet' version of 'My Way'. An unauthorized recording of their performance was later released on bootleg cassette and sold an incredible 200,000 copies."

WHAT?! Weng Weng and Imelda Marcos singing "My Way?!" Why have I not heard this? Anyone know if I can find a copy? If this is true, it'd be the most amazing cover of "My Way" since Sid Vicious', and the most amazing duet since Tiny Tim and Bob Dylan sang "I Got You Babe."

You have the Bob Dylan & Tiny Tim duet?  I have Frank Zappa with Al DiMeola (instrumental) & Sting in Chicago.  Also Neil Young before he got famous, not sounding as he did with Buffalo Springfield.
I also have a copy of the veteran  who blew the bugle at the charge of the Light Brigade, transferred from an Edison recording almost 60 years later . . . unless my sister has it . . .
Ah, odd recordings:  The very stuff of life its own self . . .

People keep talking about how hilarious FOR YOUR HEIGHT ONLY is, so why is it I got so bored out of my mind about a half hour into it? It had some amusing moments but it was just so incredibly slow I ended up having to hit the fast forward button.

I don't actually have the Tim/Dylan duet, I just saw it on a CD tracklist. I do, however, have a 45 of Ray Charles & Clint Eastwood...
