Title: Complex World

Anyone ever see this apparently pretty rare movie? I found a copy at one of my local video stores, and I must say I was very impressed. It reminded me a lot of Repo Man, but it moves along at a much steadier clip.

The plot is hard to sum up, but here goes: Offbeat folksinger Stanley Matis, jealous of his twin brother's fame as the youngest recorded suicide in history (he shot himself in the incubator), joins a terrorist group, who have been secretly hired by an arch-conservative presidential candidate to blow up his son's rock club, the Heartbreak Hotel. Meanwhile, the mayor hires a biker gang (led by Captain Lou Albano!) to trash the place so he can replace it with a shopping mall. Meanwhile, a Beatles cover band doing drugs in the back room (played by members of NRBQ) gets phone calls from Elvis, Jimi, and Janis, warning of impending doom. In the midst of all this are performances by street preacher Rev. Tilman Gandy Jr., the Young Adults (a new-wave/rockabilly band with songs like "Kill Yourself" and "Let's Get Undressed and Make a Mess"), and Matis (whose songs include "Why Do We Feed the Broads?" and "Let's Pave New Jersey").

Despite all these plot threads and performance numbers, the movie moves along fairly briskly, yet maintains an easy-going air. The acting is pretty good, especially Matis, with his foaming nerd appearance, deadpan narration, and Buddy-Holly-meets-Jello-Biafra stage persona. If you can find it, definitely check it out.

Oh, yeah; anyone know where I can find the soundtrack?
