Title: Storm Riders
Post by: Fug on May 12, 2001, 04:44:23 AM
There is a movie thats been on a lot lately on the Action channel, it called the Storm Riders. It was done in the late 90's. Its basically a kung-fu flick in a pretty wild "anime-style", and it has Sonny Chiba in it. I was just wondering if anybody has seen it, or know of any others like it.

A great film, I purchased the DVD to flesh out Henry Dunn's reader review. There is a sequel, "A Man Called Hero" that I have not seen... ...yet.

"A Chinese Ghost Story" (and sequels) are also good high-energy films.

You could always watch "Warriors of Virtue" (well, maybe not).

Storm Riders is really cool  - it's worth watching! Storm Riders uses alot of CGI effects and layers - which kinda takes away from the fight scenes. If you like that movie, try "A Man Called Hero" - it along the same lines (even has the guy who played Wind in Strom Riders in it)  and the fight scenes are much more intense. The guy who plays Cloud in Strom Riders is suppose to have a big summer action flick be released in the US, it's called China Strike Force and it has Coolio in it. Chances are good it will be a straight-to-video release.

Hey Scott, where are you from? The reason I ask is because I used to work with someone named Scott Davis when I was in Nebraska.

STORM RIDERS kicks serious ass.  It's exactly what the MORTAL KOMBAT movies should have been, but weren't.

I saw the movie on a DVD I rented from Netflix.  Oddly enough there was no dubbing, like the Action channel version, and it's thirty minutes longer.  I haven't seen the Action channel version all the way through, so I don't know what's missing, but I recommend the DVD.  (It is $50, though.)

I'd love to see the manga make its way to U.S. shores.  The plot of the movie is dense as it is, I'd like to see what's missing.

Sword Saint is my hero, even if he is easily distracted.

You can get the DVD direct from Hong Kong for about $20, it's exactly the same as the US release (Tai Seng basically just lisenced it and released it as is) and you can find it here.....

Great company, excellent film, order with confidence. It's in the Chinese section.
