1. watch nearly 1000-2000 B movies 2. research heavily on all of the B world celebrities 3. try not to be one of those critics that comically bashes bad movies(The easy way out to start up your career) 4. read the likes of Michael Weldon,Chas Balun,John Stanley,and Rick Sullivan 5. after all of that,you'll be a B movie critic in no time!! "What makes a good review? Spell checking the document is a good way to start. Proofreading is very important as well. I do this twice to all my reviews and then email them to David Emery for final proofing. At which point he takes me to task for any bonehead errors. Most important though is entertaining the reader; even if the movie could not do that on its own." Quite basic, but it is good start. He also pointed out to me that a good idea is to find a thesis (something to base your review on) and return to it regularly to avoid unnecessary rambling. Title: Re: Review help Post by: J.R. on December 03, 2002, 08:24:54 AM I think it's important not to go too far into the plot or characters (and there usually isn't much to go into anyway) and stick to a basic overview of everything, and point out the entertaining, agonizing, or just weird stuff. I've done reader reviews of Tremors, Foxy Brown, Fred Olen Ray's Alienator (amazingly bad) and The Substitute 4, but they haven't been posted. Had to mess with my PC and lost them, too.

"Everything with a bit of humor" Readability in a b-movie review is partially about making fun of the movie and keeping a flow to your review. Don't wax too heavily on a certain point. Keep it moving. Most of the things that make a good story apply to review writing. Pacing, scope and humor. |
