Title: Inappropiate Sequels
Post by: Mofo Rising on December 15, 2002, 12:42:10 AM
So here we are on the dregs of the movie world.

That neat segue brings me to movie sequels.  What movies have had sequels that are not only inappropiate, but completely stupid and meaningless.

What prompted me to post this was the talk of AMERICAN PSYCHO.  If any movie did not deserve a sequel, that would be one of them.  I heard AMERICAN PSYCHO II was a completely unrelated movie.  They only added extra footage to make it tie-in and capitalize on the name.  The only reason I would give this any attention is because Mila Kunis is in it.

HENRY II also seems like a bad idea.  As do all the PSYCHO sequels.

So what movies have had actual sequels that really didn't deserve it?  Bonus points if the sequels don't work at all.  CHILDREN OF THE CORN certainly didn't deserve any sequels, but they at least work in a retarded sort of way.

The sequel to Unnamable really sucked ass.  It had John Rys Davies in it, but it still sucked.  The first one, although many would disagree with me, was really good, right down to the monster suit, but the one worn by Julie Strain in Unnamable 2 looked horrid.  I'd have to say my least favorite sequel off the top of my head is Pumpkinhead 2.  Did the people who made that atrocity even WATCH the first movie!?  ARGH!  Urge to kill...RISING!  MUST DESTROY ROGER CLINTON!!!!

Return Of The Living Dead II   was unnecessary, pathetic, and awful. ROTLD 3 was a good movie, and a full-on serious take on the series, but ROTLD 2 was downright awful.

Silent Night Deadly Night 2 and Phantasm OblIVion are both pointless because much of them are made up of flashback footage from their prequel. If you don't have enough material for half a movie please don't compensate with leftovers.

Halloween III has absolutely no connection to its predecessors. It's a completely seperate story using the Halloween name to lure viewers in. Shameful.

lol!!

Only one thought springs to mind when I hear his name and it's him saying, "Indy" or "bad dates".

In my mind "bad dates" has been replaced by "Nobody throws a dwarf!". God bless you, John.

Actually. most of the flashbacks in Phantasm Oblivion were composed of never before seen footage (at least by the general public) that was cut from the first movie to shorten its running time. It wasn't as if you'd seen it all before.

I know, but the movie still sucked. It was pretty cheap (literally and metaphorically) to use that footage instead of crafting an entirely new story.

I think a lot of the worst sequals are "Previously seen footage " compilations. The last Gamera film (Before the remakes), is a perfect example.
When they take up the running time with old material, they areb telling you three things :" We don't care, we are cheap ass, and we expect you to buy it anyway."
Sheesh!

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer was a TRAVESTY.
Some of the Bond movies are awful.
Scream 2 was good, but not Scream 3.
The Santa Clause 2
And why oh why must we suffer those damn Star Wars prequals

Any Pink Panther movies made after Peter Sellers died (I believe TRAIL, CURSE, and SON OF are the only offenders here, but there might be more). I remember renting TRAIL when I was 11 or 12, and feeling thoroughly ripped off.

Star Wars prequels are unbleiveably awful. PSYCHO sequels beat the tar out of the original (IMO)

Not a sequel, but a remake: I watched on TV a remake of "Piranha" starring Alexandra Paul and William Katt. You'd say the point would be to use new piranha FX, but no! The dammned bastards used exactly the same footage from the Joe Dante version. So, a completely useless operation.

Ditto on the Star Wars prequels -- talk about completely destroying a mystique!

Star Treks 1, 5, 7, 9.  (Thinking of 1 as the sequel to the TV series).

Superman III and IV.

Didn't they do a Gone With the Wind sequel on TV a couple of years ago (I think it was called Scarlet)?  I don't even have to see it to know that's a bad idea!

How about al of those shameless animated follow-ups that Disney is cranking out. Next victim of this madness-The Jungle Book.

Footloose 2:FootLESS, in which Kevin Bacon teaches amputees how to dance. Completely uncalled for.

Halloween..not only did it not deserve sequels, The original should have been dragged from the theater and beaten senseless. Oh, the horror(yeah, not in this movie, pal).

I thought the Crow 2 and whatever number they are up to now where completely awful.  Not to mention tasteless since Brandon Lee died making that movie, it should have just stayed a single movie and not a franchise of (after the 1st movie) crap.

I think that the Land Before Time should have stopped having sequels after part three.  Now I think that they are at part ten.  That's as many movies as Friday the 13th in half the time.

Good Lord how could I have forgotten those.

The bizarre thing about the Land Before Time sequels is that, for maybe ten years after the first was released, there weren't any. Then, out of the blue, they released parts 2 through 10 in the space of maybe two years. Where the hell was this demand coming from? Do our nation's children have an amazingly slow response time?

I just so happened to turn to some channel today and saw Free Willy 2 and that is anothjer movie that shouldn't have been made the same goes for part three.  Oh and also The Neverending Story 3 wasn't that great either.

Considering it's plot was about the PAST and HISTORY of Mike, Reggie, and The Tall Man, it makes sense to use flashback footage.

There was no point to "Halloween 3: season of the witch"

I also never quite understood the necessity of "weekend at bernies 2"

"Grease 2"  - did it have to happen again? Apparently Frenchie spent too much time sniffing hair dye and never graduated at the age of 30

Frankly I cringe at the idea that it seems 90% of movies released in theaters these days are sequels or prequels of some sort. So much for originality, the studio has no guts

Mainstream studio's haven't had balls since 1984. Oh well.
