Title: Names
Post by: wheresthecarrot on December 18, 2002, 04:50:51 PM
Since we're all asking more personal questions, I was wondering if anyone wanted to share the story behind their, well, screen name I guess.

It's pretty obvious where mine came from (for those of you who know "Jack Frost"), but some of the others are truly intriguing.

my initials: Robert Andrew Jacoby.  I couldn't come up with anything more original

Mine is pretty obvious. Should point out that my full name comes up when I'm in my office, and AndyC when I'm at home, because I don't bother to sign in there. I'm the same guy.

"Fearless Freep" was an unseen character in an old Buggs Bunny/Yosemite Sam cartoon.  My dad started calling me that when I did some stupid stunts as a child, such as jumping of a refridgerator

Mine's pretty obvious, I think.

GODZILLAAAAAAAAA!!!  :-)

I also like keeping my own name in there too.

I can't wait to see Squishy's response. ;-)

Mine is a secondary name, as the one i used in my letters to the Burbank show, on WLW, was taken! Soooo...insted of Meatloaf Mike, i chose Hironimyus Flangepart. Not as alliteritive, but sutibly weird.
I like to think it has a certian sense of style......

Post by: Scottie on December 18, 2002, 06:32:29 PM
Well, when I first started frequenting this board, I thought I was the only Scott here. Then, when another Scott started posting under the same name, I thought I should change it for the sake of avoiding confusion. Pretty damn interesting, eh?

Post by: Dano on December 18, 2002, 06:40:55 PM
"Bring on Fearless Freep!"

He was a high diver, as I recall, and when he didn't show, Sam tried to force Bugs to do the dive.  And of course Bugs kept tricking him into jumping.

Dano - A combination of my first name and the letter O... Pretty much every group of friends, classmates, and co-workers I've had has eventually wound up calling me that on their own without me ever telling them that others call me that.  Maybe I look like the guy from Hawaii 5-0 - I've never seen the show.

My name is J.R. Fascinating, huh? It stands for Junior, and I've been called it from day one to seperate me from my dad. I hate my parents.

Mines a embarassing story but a few years ago this dude I  knew got into hacking and tryed to get me into it and we had to make up names and systemcr4sh was one I made up. Apparently I was dumb and putting numbers in our names back then was all the rage. It stuck and I just used it for stuff I signed up for. Right now I go by  " tuwhitt_ " on the internet, but I doubt I'll change it on this board. TuWhitt comes from a song by The Anniversary called "Tu Whitt Tu Whoo"

I used to have a pet cat named "Ash".

Hence the name ASHTHECAT.

My real name's Jamey.

Title: Re: Names
Post by: Deena on December 18, 2002, 10:27:03 PM
I decided to not be clever on this board and just go by my name.  Speaking of which, the chick on the Andy Richter show that he told he loved and she left him was Deena (prolly spelt some deginerate way and not my way) also.  Watching that episode jacked my head, becuz I am not used to hearing my name and someone not addressing me.

Deena

Title: Re: Names
Post by: Perk on December 18, 2002, 10:43:24 PM
Well my name's Jason Perkins and my friends name is Jason Kral and our other friends name was Jason Meyers and then there was Jason Henry, Jason Watson, Jason Evans, and Jason C.  Well whenever at least two of us were around each other someone would say "Hey Jason."  and we would all turn around.  So we decided to call each other by other names.   I got Perkins at first since it was my last name, but then somewhere along the line it got shortened to Perk and it stuck.  So whenever someone calls my room and asks for Jason my roomate(jason Henry) and I have to ask which one and sooner or later they learn the nicknames too.

Title: Re: Names
Post by: Nemo2342 on December 18, 2002, 11:02:32 PM
Ok, here we go:

Nemo (pronounced Nay-mo) is Latin for  noone or nobody.  I used Nemo as my name back in Latin class, so when I needed a new online handle I tried to use it again. Unfortunately it was taken, so I added numbers to it (yeah, I know I know). 23 is a holy number for Discordians, and 42 is of course the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

Or I could lie and tell you that Nemo2342 means that I'm the 2,342nd "no one" on the Interweb ;)

So *that's * what  "Bingo was his Nay-mo" is all about!!!

Title: Re: Names
Post by: Vermin Boy on December 18, 2002, 11:21:20 PM
When I was 10 or 11, my cousin and I were pretending to be superheroes using whatever we could find as a costume. The only mask I could find was of Mickey Mouse, and "Vermin Boy" was the most intimidating superhero name I could think of that would relate to it.

If anyone cares, my real name's Oscar. I have the same problem Deena described whenever watching Sesame Street or the Odd Couple (and that one Olsen Twins Halloween movie I saw when I was young, which featured a midget clown named Oscar).

Same here. Whenever someone on TV is talking about the "Who shot J.R.?" storyline from Dallas I think the TV's talking to me. Also, there used to be a wrestling announcer who went by the initials J.R., so I'd flip over and hear, "What do you think about that move, J.R.?". It freaked me out. I guess if your name's Mike or Joe you get used to it.

I'm trying to start a band with my friend Jason. We both e-fed (fantasy wrestling; the wrestling fans of the board know what I'm talking about), and his most used character has been Jason Crow. The band we're trying to start we've named The Family Crow, and our members will be doing a Ramones-ish move and share the last name "Crow."

Post by: Mofo Rising on December 19, 2002, 12:58:37 AM
It's a pun I used for a mixtape several years back.  It included the song "L.A. Woman", in which Jim Morrison used the anagram of his name Mr. Mojo Risin'.  I think the word "mofo" is hilarious (mostly because it was used in an old SAM & MAX comic book), so a quick bit of word play was in order.

I'm no big fan of Jim Morrison, but I like the joke.  That and having people refer to me as Mofo cracks me up.  I also use the name for most computer and video games.

Interestingly enough, there is another Mofo Rising out there.  Apparently he makes DJ-type remix MP3's.  No idea how he picked out the name, although I have my suspicions. . .

Title: Re: Names
Post by: Iressivor on December 19, 2002, 01:16:52 AM
My screen name comes from the main character of one of my novels.  I'm working to become a fantasy writer, after being inspired by R.A. Salvatore, who in turn was inspired by the man himself, J.R.R. Tolkien.

The name itself came to me when I was playing Myth: The Fallen Lords, an old PC strategy game to which I was addicted for a year.  At the time I had been searching for a suitable name for my novel's main character, as well as a suitable screen name for Myth TFL.  I was just playing around with the letters on my keyboard when...boom...there it was.  I've used it as my screen name ever since.

When I started posting here, I just used my first name because I was tired of thinking of usernames. Not too long ago someone registered the name "John" (I notice he hasn't posted anything), so I just added the first letter of my last name to it.

Well, um, I guess it's obvious when I tell you my real name is Rebecca (Like, who'd have guessed?)

Yeah, maybe I should be embarassed at not being more original.  This just seemed like the place to use it.

I wore out my T-shirt that said "I want to be Ripley when I grow up".

And JohnL:  I was expecting some sort of "Buckaroo Banzai" link there.

Post by: Pete B6K on December 19, 2002, 04:54:46 PM
Well Pete it the shortened version of Peter, my name, freaky huh?

The B6K part is a punk collective that I'm kina part of (not that I actually do anything). Its main purpose was putting on shows in  Guildford (town south of London) and but the Guildford end has now changed their name to  PBS  (http://www.btinternet.com/~tom.ellis/) , Protected By Serpents.

I'd really like to tell you what B6K actually stands for, but I didn't come up with it and I've been sworn to secrecy for some reason. It's fairly obscure but quite likely someone from this board has heard the full name.

Pete

My real name is Zarthon from planet 44666! I have been infiltrating this board to see which invasion plots have failed. Now that I have revealed my secret, I strongly suggest that you surrender your will, in return I will spare your lives. Instead of death, I will give you a job mining for xringthoth in the mountains that live on my planet. It is a dirty job, only suitable for earthlings. Surrrender now.

Oh yes, I am a Jewish alien, they do exist.

Title: Re: Names

I couldn't use my real name because it is in Spanish and would be distorted almost inmediatelly. Besides, it was quite refreshing to find and use a new name. I picked Neville after the main charater of Richard Matheson's "I am legend", a great book I was reading at the moment.

Not much of a story. Seen the film--"Lair of the White Worm"--seen the character in the film--Kevin (Chris Pitt) "aka Kevin the Scout." Liked the film. Liked the character.
Just Americanized the name a little. "And I want to go the way he did in the film. Having a beautiful woman make passionate love to me." Enjoy!
