Title: Favorite Herschell Gordon Lewis movie?
Post by: The Burgomaster on January 30, 2003, 06:16:01 PM
Of course, BLOOD FEAST, 2000 MANIACS and COLOR ME BLOOD RED are classics, but let us not forget THE WIZARD OF GORE, A TASTE OF BLOOD, THE GRUESOME TWOSOME . . . the list goes on!

Herschell's infamous MAGIC LAND OF MOTHER GOOSE is on a recently-released DVD from Something Weird Video. The same DVD also features THE WONDERFUL LAND OF OZ (which probably cost about $500 to produce) and JACK AND THE BEANSTALK, both directed by the talentless Barry Mahon.

Until "Blood Feast 2" gets officially released,I'd have to say "2000 Maniacs",for both it's really cool movie title, and it's demented concept(tourists get gorily slain in a Southern ghost town).

I'm way into the earlier stuff like "Blast Off Girls" and especially "Just for the hell of it".  One of my favorite directors.  Up there with Ed Wood jr. and way better then Al Adamsen.

HG Lewis is a fave of mine as well. As much is written about his "gore" movies, its his other exploitation movies that I enjoy more.

Just For The Hell Of It
Alley Tramp
Blast-Off Girls
Moonshine Mountain
Suburban Roulette
Boinggg
these are just a few, but for the gore movies I like:

2000 Maniacs
Blood Feast
The Gore-Gore Girls

Have to say the wizard of gore, I'm not a HG Lewis fan at all really but this one was the most fun to me out of the bunch that I've seen.

Moonshine mountain and this stuff'll kill ya were both great.  He has such a visceral style.  Pink Flamingos (Waters)is kind of like that
