Title: Black Orpheus (1959)
Post by: Scott on March 14, 2003, 11:37:21 PM
Switching things up a bit before heading back to some westerns. I just viewed BLACK ORPHEUS (1959) which is a story that takes place in Rio de Janeiro. Its all takes place during Carnival which is like a larger version of Marde Gras or the Mummers Parade. Orpheus and Eurydice are the main characters based on the mythical figures of the same name, set during the time of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro the they are chased by death (kinda like in the SEVENTH SEAL). Very colorful film with non-stop samba music and dancing. The setting along the cliffs of the city are quite nice and the film spends alot of time around them.

By the way the female lead also has a part in WOMEN EATER(1957) about a flesh eating tree. Thats the only conection this film has to a bad movie.
