Well, a lesser-known band by the name of Helmet was in the Jerky Boys movie.  Although the movie itself was pretty bad, but the band is good.  And wasn't Offspring in the movie Idle Hands?  Maybe I'm losing it, but I could've sworn that they were.  That's all that I know of off-hand, though.

yup, the Offspring were in Idle Hands, doing Blitz Kreig Bop, Blink 182 was in American Pie(2/3 of the band), Sugar Ray was in Fathers Day,Reel Big Fish were in BASEketball.  RUN DMC were in Krush Groove, as was LL cool J. That's all I can remember for now.

What the hell?  No one mentioned the fact that Lemmy from Motorhead was the narrator in Tromeo and Juliet, and the cab driver in Hardware.
Also, Guitar Wolf, one of the COOLEST GODDAMN BANDS IN THE WORLD!!! starred in two movies.  Wild Zero and Sore Losers.  Both are a trip to watch, especially Sore Losers.
Everyone talks about White Zombie in Airheads, but no one ever talks about one of my favorite bands, the Galactic Cowboys, who play the Sons of Thunder.

Title: Or How About.....
Post by: Ash on March 24, 2003, 02:18:03 AM
Or how about Autograph in "Like Father, Like Son" with Dudley Moore and Kirk Cameron??

Remember Autograph?

They sang "Turn Up The Radio" which was released in 1984.

They are also the ONLY rock band I have ever met.

They were signing autographs here in town back in 1984 when I was 10 years old.

I remember I had on a pair of black parachute pants with all those zippers and my grandpa took me there.

They were doing autographs at a place called The Record Bar which is now a Sam Goody store.

I had bought their cassette tape "Sign In Please" and had all of them sign the inside paper part of it!

I still have it.

It's faded to a dull yellow after all these years but all of their signatures are intact!

(and by the way.....Cannibal Corpse was in the first Ace Ventura film!!.....not the 2nd!)

Holy Balls! ASH! What color were your parachute pants? I had a blue pair, a red pair, a gray pair, and a black pair that had zippers down the legs which you could unzip to show a silver stripe! I also had the Thriller jacket! Yep, I said it, I had the thriller jacket, thankfully my mom wouldn't buy me the spangly glove or let me get a perm. I'm also thankful that I discovered the Ramones shortly after this period! whew! What might have happened?

The Circle Jerks were in Repo Man, and T.S.O.L., D.I., and The Vandals were in Suburbia.

Not really a band, but my favorite musician cameo is Jello Biafra as the FBI agent in Tapeheads. Busting them for distributing pornography, no less.

Letters from Clio appear at the end of 10 things I hate about you on the top of the school during the ending credits.
Also the Offspring appear in Idle hand(s?).
Also theres a damn good band in from Dusk Till Dawn although unfortunately they aren't famous...yet!

Some obvious ones are
Alice Cooper in Wayne's World (we're not worthy)
Smashmouth in Rat Race (the kid says "whoah its smashmouth")
Rammstein in XXX (the best part of the movie)

let's not forget Save Ferris in 10 things I hate about you, preforming at the prom no doubt and also in the teen flicks Ska Connections Mighty Mighty Bosstones in Clueless

Title: Re: Bands in movies
Post by: Vermin Boy on March 24, 2003, 05:36:02 PM
It was indeed Tito & Tarantula. I'm surprised Tito isn't more of a cult figure; his previous band, the Plugz, did the score for Repo Man, and he played Hammy in Pee-Wee Herman's HBO special ("Shoe mirrors!").

Couple I can think of:

Can't believe no one mentioned any of the beatles movies.

The seeds in psych out
the standells and chocolate watchband in riot on the sunset strip
The misfits in bruiser

The Lunachicks in Terror Firmer

Strawberry Alarm Clock in Beyond the Valley of the Dolls

The Sex Pistols in The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle

NRBQ (as a Beatles cover band!) in Complex World (as well as the amazing, ultra-obscure, RI-quasi-punk band the Young Adults)

L7 in Serial Mom

There was another band in Repo Man, but I forget their name; they played the blues musicians who beat the snot out of Emilio

I think I heard about a movie where the Cramps play a biker gang, but I don't remember the name.

Does anyone know if the chick band in Blood Dolls is an actual band?  I've looked, but there's no band listed in the credits, and there's no soundtrack to the movie that I've been able to dig up.

How about Henry Rollins in "Johnny Mnemonic"

Mick Jagger in "Freejack"

David Bowie in "Merry Xmas Mr Lawrence,"  "Labyrinth," and "Fire Walk with Me"

Marky Mark in "The Big Hit"  (he was in others, but who cares)

Issac Hays in "Uncle Sam," "Escape From New York"  and you-know-what

Flea in "Big Lebowski" (Nihilist), "The Chase" (with Anthony Kiedis & Henry Rollins).  I forgot what this was called, but I remembered the scene where the 'Peppers get hit by the car.

Those are the ones that immediately come to mind...

Post by: peter johnson on March 25, 2003, 01:38:26 AM
Vermin, who usually has all the answers re. posts like this, I am quite shocked didn't mention the following:
Guns and Roses (With Jim Carrey(!!) taking the part of Axl Rose, but lip-synching Rose's vocals) in Clint Eastwood's "The Drowning Pool"
The Bonzo Dog Band (The band that followed Brave Sir Robin in Monty Python's Holy Grail -- whoops!  There's another one!) in The Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour".
Frank Zappa in The Monkees' "Head".

D'oh! The second after I posted, I remembered the Bonzo Dog Band in Magical Mystery Tour and Innes in Holy Grail!

My dad tracked down an old sixties artsy collage film called "You Are What You Eat" (it features one of his favorite songs, "My Name is Jack" by John Simon). Not that easy to watch, but it features excellent footage of the Mothers of Invention and Tiny Tim (backed by The Band!!) in action.

I saw a bit of a movie (I think called The Ladies Man) featuring Spike Jones & his City Slickers as barflies, lip-syncing "Cocktails for Two."

Not a movie, but I caught a rerun of The Adventures of Pete & Pete a couple of months ago, and was shocked to realize one of the kids' dads was played by Iggy Pop! And he even sang in the episode I saw!!

If I ever get money to make a movie, I'm definitely going to try to work in Deadbolt, a hilarious horror/surf rock/black comedy band. Their song "Patches the Clown" is an obscuro masterpiece.

Back to the Beach had:
Dick Dale and Stevie Ray Vaughn performing "Pipeline"
The Surf Punks and Pee-Wee Herman performing "Surfin' Bird"
Fishbone

Pearl Jam was in the movie "singles"

Lemmy from Motorhead was in the crowd in the movie "Airheads"

I think Wendy O'Williams (Plasmatics) was in a few movies.

GWAR was in the movie "Blind Date"

Either Los Straitjackets or Los Lobos (can't remember which, just one of those surf bands that dress up like luchadores) were in Psycho Beach Party.

That's Los Straitjackets.   Los Lobos is the traditional Mexican-American roots rock band--the ones that did the soundtrack for La Bamba.

Oingo Boingo were in Forbidden Zone and Longshot.....

Megadeth was in THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION, PART II

Insane Clown Posse and Twiztid were in BIG MONEY HU$TLA$ (although that might not count, as the movie was made by ICP).

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult were the band in THE CROW that played when Draven came for Skank.

They just keep rollin' in.  Bile was in Dee Snider's Strangeland.  And so was...uh...Dee Snider.
For some reason I always thought that band in The Crow was KMFDM.

Hahahahaha, Eminem was in 8 Mile. (so was this rapper named Xzibit)
Ice Cube has many movies, he and j. Lo were in Anaconda.
J. Lo was also in Out of Sight, the Money Train, Angel Eyes..... but does she even count?
and you have Davy Jones and the rest of the Monkees in the Brady Bunch Movie (I think)
The Who and Elton John in Tommy.
Britney Spears in Crossroads and Austin Powers 3, while Mandy Moore tried a Walk to Remember.
Jon Bon Jovie was in John Carpenter's Vampires: Los Muertos
P. Diddy/Puff Daddy, was in Monster's Ball.
Various musicians (like Gwen Stefani and David Bowie) in Zoolander (which is a great movie).
And never forget action star DMX in Cradle 2 the Grave, Romeo Must Die and that Steven Segal Movie.

I know they are obvious, but hey Im trying to cause a commotion.

Rammstein was in XXX and yes, it was the best part of the movie.

I don't know if any were mentioned, I can't keep up with the long post. I'm not sure if you wanted bands that sang or singers/bands that just appeared in a movie. I'm going to go for those who sang because the number of musicians who have bit parts in movies is way too numerous to even mention. The more interesting phenomenon would be appearances by musicians in movies  singing, before they were tremendously famous.

Madonna - While starring in numerous movies, I first remember her as a singer in a club in "VISION QUEST"

Bonnie Raitt in "URBAN COWBOY" singing in the bar

I think in VALLEY GIRL the Plimsouls played at the club. Also at the prom Josie Cotton sang. (she sang "Johnny are you queer")

The Busboys were in 48 HOURS

I bet there are more 80's movies that are good examples (there always seemed to be a scene in a club with a band) but i'd have to really think back.
