Title: Deathsports Post by: Joe Stalin on March 24, 2003, 02:10:46 PM I read the review for "Rollerball" and all the other deathsport movies. "Gladiators" was a new one for me, all the others I have seen. If you want to see the ULTIMATE DEATHSPORT MOVIE, check out "The Blood Of Heroes" with Rutgar Huer and Joan Chen. The game is a cross between rugby and basic oldschool [no guns] gang warfare. The "ball" is a dog skull. The timekeeper throws rocks against a metal sheet to keep time. The teams consist of 5 players. 1 runs the dog skull to place it on a stake. 2, 3 and 4 block for the runner using poles with spikes and chains wrapped around them. 5 whips a flail made out connected chains to guard the stake [or goal]. Watch it once and you to will want to start a league in your own neighborhood. After watching it with my friends, we all had serious considerations.
Title: Re: Deathsports Post by: Dolph Lundgren on March 24, 2003, 03:34:02 PM Hell yeah, I'm with you Joe. I managed to snag a copy of Blood of Heroes on VHS for a couple of dollars a few weeks ago. I was surprised to see a lot of good things being said about it over on IMDB.com, so I went ahead and grabbed it. Great movie with good performances, especially by Rutger Hauer. I figured it would be another take on the Road Warrior formula, but I was very pleasantly surprised. Plus, the game itself was just a cool idea. It was also funny seeing Private Pyle/Leonard from Full Metal Jacket (Vincent D'Onofrio) as one of Hauer's teammates. He does a good job in the film as well, however.
Would Ahnuld's the Running Man be considered to be a Deathsport movie? I guess it's more of a death gameshow type of movie, although it's still great. Nick |
