I live on a farm in north central Iowa near Mason City.  We just got the inside plumming installed last fall, and boy do we love it!  No more walking half a mile to the outhouse, and we finally got us some of that storebought toilet paper too.  No more corn husks for us!

My god, Scott!  That profile pic!  What kind of devestation have you wrought out there in the desert?

Oh wait, that's the meteor crater.  I've been there.

Yeah, you've been a lot more places in Arizona than I have.  I'm actually a transplant from Alaska.  Been here about five years.

I do have a friend named Jersey, but we only call him that because he's never been there.

New York City
Las Vegas
Atlanta
Chicago

I love it out there, too. I spent some time there for work a few years ago. Stayed at the Hilton (not sure if it's in Mesa or one of the surrounding cities, but it's a beautiful Hotel . . . nice atrium with a bar in the middle of it).

Went to a bar called Marco Polo's one night. I also ate at a restaurant that served fried testicles. They gave me a certificate for eating them.

SkullNinja we stayed at Holiday Inn Express near Baseline Drive in Mesa or Tempe can remember which at this time.

Mofo, thats to funny. Don't worry Jersey isn't missing much. How do you like Pheonix compared to Alaska. I heard that its been over 100 degrees all week. When we went out there it was 70 degrees average around Easter time. The whole state is awesome.

I joke with people that my parents moved to Tuscon because Phoenix was just too hot.  People who have been there know it's not a joke.

"Tuscon has 100/100 but Phoenix has 115/115"

Meaning 100 days a year over 100 degrees and 115 days a year over 115 degress, respectively

They have a thing on Bravenet.com where you can create a guestmap (visitors can select a face icon to use as a pushpin on the map where they are located and can leave a brief message), it would be interesting to have a concept like that here.

I'm in dallas. I'm actually more curious about what everyone here does for a living. ;-) We know what you are by night, but what are you by day..

Well, I'd much rather live in Alaska (I'm from Juneau), but there's this whole making money thing that keeps me down here.  Much easier to make a living.

Also, while Alaska has that whole outdoors thing going on for it, Phoenix has much more of the indoor thing happening.  I can actually see movies on opening day without having to stand in line for an hour or two.  Not to mention the arthouse flicks.

I don't know, I'll probably move back when I can get a proper occupation going for me.

And yes, it has been over a hundred all week.  But you get used to it if you never go outside.

Currently living in Tulsa, OK.   I've lived here for seven years--before that I lived in a small town also in Oklahoma.  My grandparents act like I live in New York or something..Tulsa is considered the "big city."

Later this year I'll be moving to California--it'll be the biggest change I've ever made in my life.   Not sure we're were moving yet--it depends on my girlfriend's work situation, but it will probably be one of the college towns in Northern California.

Greensboro, North Carolina, the place nobody's heard about, or cares to know about. Sure we have 200,000 people, but I'm here, and that's what makes it so crappy. I WANT TO GET OUT! I'm going to an even smaller town in Nc next year for college called Boone, NC where I'm going to Appalachian State University. Why did I pick an even smaller town? I really really don't know. Mind lapse I think, but I'm probably going to transfer after a semester. I can't stand small city life.

That is so untrue! I love Chicago! The last time I was there, I spent a lot of time drinking in the Rush/Division Street area. I seem to remember that the Hang Uppe (is that how it is spelled?) and the Leg Room were excellent places to drink into the wee hours of the morning.

Post by: Paquita on June 01, 2003, 11:41:00 AM
Thats why i said if you dont drink or go to parties! theres bars up the butt!
as for the museums and stuff, theyre fun but they cost a buttload to get into if you dont go on the free day and even on the free day you still have to pay for the attractions and they close way too early! if you dont make it by 4pm youre screwed! same thing with the zoos! and its not like you can do that stuff everyday  once or twice a year is about all youre gonna get!   and anytime i wanna go to the water part of chicago people say "EEWWW NOO!" apparently theres something really gross about the lake that i dont know about.  maybe its all the fat rude people in swimwear with their fat rude kids?  i havent heard too much about the parks, there are some pretty places but no one wants to go ever cos theyre too busy being drunk and lazy and id rather not go alone.  and you have to take public transportation everywhere! theres no point in owning a car or even learning to drive in chicago cos parking spots are worth more than gold and you might get killed over one and its probably faster to walk anyway.
BUTT! the FOOD is great! thats why everyones so fat!

Funny that you mention McDonalds... When we get bored here in rural/suburban Mass., one of our favorite activities is trying to creep out the employees at the local McDonalds! (Actually, Family Dollar is much more fun, but they're not open at, say, midnight).

NONO! That actually sounds like fun! most people I know are too chicken poo to do stuff like that! but im also kind of afraid of McDonald's employees anyway. BUTT! id really like to walk into someplace make a big fuss over something at the counter or hit on everyone behind the counter really grossly even the girls and then walk away showing that im wearing buttless pants! god that would be so funny!! its not my idea though, its my roomates, but i think id have the guts to do it! unfortunately i think the idea was stolen by the "Just Kidding" people and done by police officers. but its still funny!

I'm picturing someone with a realistic fake knife stuck into their head on an angle, and stage blood all over their face, hair and clothes, staggering in, ordering a burger, slumping on the counter a couple times, dropping the money all over the floor and then staggering back out, smacking into the door frame as they go.

Paquita... Do you work by the loop???

I work in a building next to the Sears Tower...

As for things happening in Chicago, it depends on where you are and who you are...

Back in 1990's I used to drive around with my friends and shouting at people walking by, and tossing soft drinks at well dressed gang bangers... We even got into several fights with Skin Heads (yea, there were skin heads in Chicago) ... The memories of the craze things we did were great!

I've even panted a "Jolly Roger" on the hood of my car (it was a 1982 Dodge Challanger) and that was funny when you think of that... :D

Ooh, that's a good one! I just might do that-- my friends and I make movies. so we've got a few prop knives. Most of our McDonalds stuff is actually pretty tame so far; we usually just show up, either at midnight or at a time when there are lots of little kids, wearing suspicious clothes (either zoot suits or wino type stuff, always with sunglasses), and always order Happy Meals.

Like I said, Family Dollar is more fun-- we go in and haggle endlessly (we once came so close to getting 6 dozen Kiddie Neon Sunglasses for a dollar!)

Can't wait to wreak havoc in Boston next year...

I'm from Sheffield in north Alabama, it's a town of about 9,000. But it's also part of a group of four towns all clustered together around part of the Tennessee River. The largest town, Florence, has about 35,000 people; and there are maybe a little under 100,000 living in the Quad-cities and the surrounding two counties. While there is some nice scenery here, there is very little to do if you aren't enamored of some of the historical attractions. The nightlife is a joke, draft beer isn't allowed, and Sunday alcohol sales are still illegal. Maybe I should try creeping out the employees at the Dollar General (kind of like Family Dollar, I can't tell the difference between the two) across the street from me.

The various city leaders are part of an effort to turn the area into a tourist attraction and retirement community with a large golf complex, fine hotel, a riverside development project, and yet another attempt to refurbish a mushroom looking tower that has been a money losing failed tourist attraction for its entire existence. It's currently closed due to being unable to pay it's bills, and every attraction or restaurant they put in there going under.

I've been to Tucson a few times, my extended family seems to like it since we keep going back. I've always wanted to visit Oregon, the Pacific Northwest seems like the kind of area I'd like to move to one day.
