Is there any actress that you can think of that John Q. Public seems to think is pretty but you've never understood why?

An actress that you in particular think is rather plain and unattractive?

I was just watching Panic Room and I also watched Contact the other day.

I'm referring to Jodie Foster.

I've never found her beautiful at all!

While she may be a decent actress and does have a great rack I think that her physical looks are not to my liking.

I do agree that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder but man....she just doesn't do it for me!

What actress or actresses do you think fit this bill?

Michelle 'Butch' Rodriguez, shes got a thick meaty face, like a pork roast.

Kirsten dunst, she isnt bad, but from some angles shes got a face like biscuit

Charlize Theron, uh huh pamela anderson wants her DNA back.( they  got the same face its so creepy)

Kate Beckinsdale, bleh! pain in the ass anoying 'but dont I look so sweet' face

tara reid, creepy freak, the epitome of blondeness in all its cluelessness.( I'm a dirty blonde so I can say that)

Denise Richards, Never have I wanted to crush this womans head more. Cant act and doesnt even look that good

Here here to Denise Richards.  Her face is so wide she looks like a hammerhead shark.
And Pamela Anderson...barf.  Wierd face, barbie doll body, huge fake boobs.  Ick.
Fake boobs in general, ick.  I'm one of the few guys I know who likes small breasts.  Call me crazy, but I don't dig the idea of losing my arm up to the elbow...

Cameron Diaz- She looks great untill I get to see her face. Big smile with way too many teeth. It look like her mouth is half her head.

Julia Roberts is by far one of the ugliest mainstream actresses that I have ever seen.  I have absolutely no clue as to why the public thinks she is so hot.  Yuck.  She has a huge mouth.  It's actually quite frightening.

Julia -- definitely.  Never could understand what people see in her.

Yup, I think Julia Roberts epitomizes the ugly actress who is inexplicably considered beautiful by a lot of people. Never could figure that out. You could unclog a toilet with the woman's lips.

Barbara Streisand is another one. Even when she was younger, I couldn't see the big deal. Still can't understand why James Brolin would have left Bailey Quarters to marry Mel Brooks in a wig. Come to think of it, at least Mel would be more entertaining than Babs. Why do so many people fawn all over this woman?

Julia Roberts and Angelina Jolie are ass ugly.

Call me crazy, but I've never really seen the attraction in Britney Spears. I mean, she looks alright, I guess, but there's nothing about her that really grabs me; she just seems so bland. Besides, it's sort of a turn-off for me knowing that everything she says or does has been determined by a committee of record company suits; it's like having the hots for a pull-string talking Barbie doll.

Not really, I don't spend a lot of time thinking about what everyone else likes, much less whether I don't like it as well.

I agree with the whole Julia Roberts thing.

For years, I couldn't figure out why everyone thought she was so beautiful. I thought she was fairly attractive, but that was all. I thought she looked too much like her brother Eric to be considered "beautiful."

Although, I do find her a bit more appealing now than I did a few years ago.

Goldie Hawn has never done anything for me.

Ditto Meryl Streep and Glenn Close.

I also agree that Julia Roberts isn't attractive at all to me. Angelina Jolie was cute in Cyborg II, but I don't like her now.

Don't get me wrong. She isn't ugly. I just never saw her as being the stunningly gorgeous woman so many others claimed she was.

Streisand : Babs is cursed by the schnozz of Jimmy Durante. Such a honker! Every time i see her, the ghost of Mort Drucker charactures comes back, and he always did her coke snorter Juuuust right.  Two car garage!

Fake Breasts : If they look too good to be true, as the saying goes....I like 'em about size 32. Hey, you can over do a good thing! I picked up a photo, that a strip club wanted to run in the paper...she was not human! Those chest pads where their own parody! Yeeish! Had to be an alien from a water planet....evolutionary flotation devices.....not a pretty sight......realy!

I dont get the big deal about Jennifer Lopez.... I mean, she seems all right, but certainly not awesoe.

And whats up with Christina Aguilera (and the whole cast of singers like Pink) in the Moulin Rouge Song... Chritina looks dirty as hell, totally anorexic, and wears hair extensions. Blech.

Actually, I thought Sarah Michelle Geller was really cute for about the first 3 seasons of the show and then she just started emaciating. By the 4th season of the show she barely looked like the same person her face (and the rest of her) was so thin.

While I do agree she has gone downhill, I am happy to own her on DVD during her prime in a small movie called Cruel Intentions

Which is a shame considering she used to be really cute back before she started taking makeup tips from crack whores.

It's so nice to hear guys say why they don't find the "glamor" girls pretty - because frankly everytime I've tried to - guys chuck it up to "your just jealous" (not sure why men think that if a woman finds another woman who is considered pretty by popular vote, unattractive, that it's because we envy her. Some might, but i'm frankly just honest).

I'm the same way with men, I think that beauty lies in those little characteristics that make a person unique. The cookie cutout ideal that magazines and media try to push as "beautiful" to me just..aren't that special. George clooney? Blech

Yes. Holly Hunter has always done something for me. I think it's her voice more than anything else.

There was a woman once who came to my door trying to sell oranges. What i couldn't get over is how she sounded exactly like holly Hunter. I have a talent with voices, I can hear any voice narrarating a commercial or talking...calling me on the phone, and tell you who it is no matter how obscure they are because accents aside, each voice is distinct in a very subtle way...so i was quite mesmerized by it. Maybe I could find out her number and have her call you.  I'm sure she'd love to tell you some oranges. ;-)

Allison Hannigan.  I can't really say why, but I think she's just beautiful.

Actually, it's usually the women with distinctive faces that appeal to me. I disagree with some of the names listed, beacuse they are, to me, examples of unconventional beauty being attacked for not conforming.

Hollywood's idea of a beautiful woman is much like their idea of an entertaining movie. It's a lowest-common-denominator type of thing, meant to appeal, at least somewhat, to the most people. It's the equivalent of a processed cheese slice when we should be offered brie, gouda, limburger, etc.

A skinny woman with long, wavy blonde hair does nothing for me. A curvier woman with short, straight dark hair will get my attention every time.

I've always been more of a Mary Ann type. Which did all of you prefer, Ginger or Mary Ann? I suppose we could also include Mrs. Howell in the choices, just in case.

The really funnny part is that you actually think your post makes more sense than Freep's.

Yeah, Freep's right, none of us may be glamour boys (or girls) but then we're NOT PAID TO BE.  We haven't made MILLIONS because we're supposed to be beautiful.  And if you put yourself out there as a Professional Beauty, well -- I'm gonna comment on it!

Julia Roberts -- gotta agree on this one -- she seems like a real nice person, actually, and a decent actress, but when how or why did she become a signifier for glamour & beauty??  Not.

J.Lo -- for a comprehensive take on her, see South Park's recent episode, "Fat Butt & Pancake Head."  'Nuff said.

Angelina Jolie -- she's just scary.  Is there anything real left on her face or body?

Charlie's Angels -- sorry, gotta disagree on these gals.  Lucy Liu is luscious, I just wanna take a big bite out of Drew, and Cameron Diaz is the classic fantasy girl-next-door who just happens to be a knockout.

Breasts -- I like big breasts.  I like really big breasts.  But I'll take small naturals over big fake plastic monstrosities any day.  Who are the guys who like these things?? I've never known any.  Where are they hiding?  In strip clubs?

I think what puts Jodie Foster over is her intelligence.  It shines like a beacon out of her face and makes her very attractive.  Same with Helen Hunt, who is totally not my type but who I've had a thing for since Mad About You (recently saw her here in NY on stage in a play called Life X 3).  Intelligence is what made Katherine Hepburn so attractive too.  Never discount the attraction of brains.

Of course big breasts always help.

Most of the time I don't care for her, but in some things she looks cute. I like the way she looks in the previews for Gigli.

Charlize Theron - try a little harder to make your freakish skull pop out of its skin, emaciated mummy woman, you almost have it.

Jennifer Garner - jutting facial bones, gorilla eyes and an ear-to-ear maw do not an attractive woman make.

Julia Roberts - her mouth is so large we're all inside it right now.

Those are about the only exceptionally ugly actresses I can come up with at the moment.  Most of the others (I'm thinking of Oscar night, as it's fresh in my mind) are unremarkable or too heavily slathered with makeup.  Jodie Foster I do find somewhat attractive, though not in any conventional sense.  Perhaps it's the breasts, and the fact that her face doesn't look like that of every other fake-pretty actress in Hollywood.  Angelina Jolie looks like a Frank Miller drawing, and thus is able to pull off the big-lipped aesthetic where other actresses would fail to do so.

I think Charlize Theron is attractive in most movies, but I've seen pictures of her at the Academy Awards show and I thought she looked terrible.

Has anyone else noticed this? You'll see an actress in a TV show or movie and she looks great, then you see her on some awards show or a talkshow with bleached white hair pulled back so tightly that when she looks straight at the camera it looks like she doesn't have any, shiny, bronze colored skin that looks like it belongs on a Thanksgiving turkey, and bones showing through her skin.

Not every actress looks like this of course, but many do. It's gotten to the point where it seems like the makeup artists on these shows try to make them look as unappealing as possible.

Compare the way Charlize looks on awards shows with how she looked in Two Days in the Valley or Reindeer Games and you'll see what I mean.
