Title: Coolest Voice
Post by: AndyC on July 09, 2003, 09:29:07 AM
This is pretty self-explanatory. What actor do you think has the coolest voice?

One that springs to my mind is Paul Winfield.

Good voices all. I'd also add Boris Karloff, Vincent Price and Orson Welles.

I would also go with....

Jeremy Irons - He has such an evil voice and when actors do animated movies, their voice shines. Irons' Scar certainly stole the show from  James Earl Jone's Mufasa

George Sanders - He did older movies with a deep baritone pure evil voice, Maybe you will recognize him from All About Eve, Psychomania, or the voice of Sher Kahn, the tiger in Disney's Jungle Book

Tom Hanks - No one puts out a groan like him.

I agree on James Earl Jones.

There's another guy with a voice similar to his who does the voice on most Verizon Wireless commercials.

Anyone know who he is?

I thought Jones did all the Verizon commercials.

I also like Keith David, the guy who did the voice for the animated version of Spawn and the head gargoyle on the cartoon of the same name.

Fisher Stevens does the commercials Bravo and came out in "Short Circuit" 1 and 2, "Hackers" and another great B movie called "My Science Project"  in which he is very funny.

Brad Dourif, Tim Thomerson

My picks, with seconds included for ones already mentioned:

Keith David - he should replace the guy who does the voiceovers for 75% of the movie previews and trailers in America. The "In a world..." guy as he's sometimes called.

Richard Boone
George Sanders
Peter O'Toole
Richard Harris
Anthony Hopkins
Alan Rickman
James Coburn
Robert Mitchum
and the all time king of coolest voices is

Toshiro Mifune. Like thunder in the distance at normal tones or a whisper, Like a frieght train bearing down on you when he was enraged. The one voice I wish I had instead of my own.

One for me is Mark Hamill
Just listen to the Joker from Batman the Animated series and tell me if he doesn't fit the bill. I can't believe all of the other characters he's done. It seems like everytime I turn around I'm seeing his name as voice in some cartoon.

Michael Dorn is another. I love his voice in documentaries.

Vincent Price for sure. Leonard Nemoys I've always liked (In search of..) And  I cant remember the guys name who did the voice in the twilight zone episode "To Serve Man" but his always creeped me out for some reason.

Rod Serling
Ken Nordine
Mel Blanc (or does he count?)
Phil Hartman
That one comedienne who shows up on Comedy Central every so often, who normally talks in a really squeaky voice, then launches into something completely different when impersonating someone. It's hard to describe, but the effect is totally bizarre.

How could I have forgotten?

Tony Todd!

There is some guy that narrates at the beginning of teasers and trailers for movies that has a rough, gravelly voice - no idea who he is, but he's got the ability to draw in the crowds

He does the voiceover for the trailer of halloween part 6 (the origin of michael meyers) on the vhs copy of THE CROW - that the one that springs to mind.

He was also the Hobgobling on the first new Spider Man series.

He gets paid a little over 4,000 dollars for every 30 seconds he speaks, talk about a lucky life. I saw a day in the life of him on Dateline once.

I cant believe we have forgotten Sean Connery, what a voice. Especially on celebrity Jeopardy

This is waaaay out of left field, but I always liked Truman Capote's voice.

Eddie Deezen certainly qualifies as "unique", I don't know about "coolest".

Male: voice actor, Paul Frees, who could give voice to anything and did for over 40 years.

Female: actress, Amanda Donohoe, with her husky, smoke-filled voice, all she would have to say is "Take off your clothes." And my response: "You're standing on my shorts."

Thurl Ravenscroft--Kirby in the Disney Little Toaster flicks, also sang "You're a Mean One, Mr Grinch"  in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and continues to be the inimitable voice of Tony the Tiger.  What a set of pipes.
Also Boris Karloff, the most distinctive voice in showbiz.
