Title: Questions about movie buying
Post by: wuggles451 on July 27, 2003, 10:27:38 PM
Im sure many of you have picked up a Fango or Videoscope or other genre film mag. If so there is no doubt you've been bombarded by rare video companies (Video Search of Miami; Witching Hour Video; Cinema Wasteland.)that reproduce out of print or unlicensed films. Has anyone here ever ordered any films from such companies or did i just waste twenty bucks?

I've bought from Video Screams and Shocking Videos, and a few others that I've heard about mainly from word of mouth.  I haven't bought from any of the ones you mention, and haven't heard a lot good about VSOM.  I've heard good things about Witching Hour but have never bought from them.   I like obscure documentaries and a lot of those have never been officially released so the video dealers are a good source for me.

As far as more "legitimate" releases I get a lot of stuff via EBay or Half.com.

I haven't bought from them either, but they sound like a good outfit--they advertise in a lot of the smaller publications where the editors are usually more picky about whom they allow to advertise.

VSOM has been around for years. I have never ordered anything from them, but I assume they would have gone out of business a long time ago if they were no good.

I recommend VIDEO MAYHEM. They specialize in a lot of movies from the Far east, as well as some from Europe. Many of the movies they offer come in various versions (so, you might be able to choose from the Hong Kong version, the Dutch version, or the Korean version of a particular movie).

I ordered 2 DVDs from   VIDEO MAYHEM and I was happy with the service and the product. The DVDs were:

* BATTLE ROYALE (uncut version) which is an excellent movie.

* THE DEMON'S BABY, which is a bad movie, but a LOT of fun to watch (definitely an MST3K candidate).
