Ive liked B-movies ever since my babysitter started renting them and brining them to my house when she babysat for me.I still remeber the first time she brought The Thing, and Evil Dead over, I couldn't stop thinking about them and the kind of art work they inspired out of me was just as bizzare and twisted as the movies them selves.
Now why did I start liking them, im not sure, its wasn't for the special effects or for the acting or  the story, but something else.Perhaps they appeal to my defience of the mainstream culture, bolding going out and beyond hollywoods tastes and into some other twisted realm altogether.If you look at many of the great hollywood pictures you will see there roots based in the B-movie culture.Look at the horror movies now days and you will see every cliche that the B horror movie made famous.
Many people look at me funny when I say I like movies like Night of the living dead,dawn of the dead and texas chainsaw massacre, they act like I have no idea what a good movie is, but then I see these people geting hyped up about the next special effects laden no thrills or spills gay ass horror movie from hollywood.I think many people don't really under stand what a B-movie is.B-movies don't get the B in there name because there bad, in fact many are very good and they would probably be surprised at what movies would be classified as a B-movies.
What the B really means is budget.These are movies made on small budgets, this does hamper many B-movies quality, usually its things like bad acting or lousy editing.The amount of money though does not make the acting or script better, that is simply based on talent.So just because a movie has a small budget does not mean it is bad, there are many big budget hollywood movies that suck just as much ass as the worst b-movies.The best B-movies in my opinion were so good because of there smaller budgets.The directors put more time into the actual story and charector rather then just trying to get to the next big special effect.Look at some of the great B-movies Alien(yes Alien is a B-movie there budget was was actually very small), the Evil Dead series,Night of the living dead and its sequals and my favorite The Thing(remake), these are some of the greatest movies I think that have ever been made, and all have smaller budgets then any hollywood movie.
I love B-movies and always will.When Hollywoods big budget movies start to annoy me I know I can take refuge in my B-movie collection.

Oh my God a subject I never thought would ever come up.

I have watched B-movies for over 20 years. To sit there and say why I like to watch them is not an easy task. I like to watch them beause they are different than your normal dramas epicsthat seem to take top billing over a B-movie any day.

Like previously stated they are made from low budgets and have mediocre to sometimes bad acting but they seem real I guess in a sense. I mean The actors actually tried to do their best to make the movie and get it done for those who chose to watch them. In real I am meaning that they actually poured their heart into it. Regardless of the acting or the effects and how bad they might have been you would almost have to admit that they did their job and got it done.  

Not like the movies of today where they are high budgeted and time sensitive, I mean you did not hear them screaming and crying cause they needed more money or more time. You surely never heard the actors complaining of the working conditions or the work environments. They worked with what they had, with the location they had and certainly with whatever the weather or the environment had to offer. I read so many articles and watch so many tv clippings where the actors or actresses make outrageous demands after they have agreed to do the movie and then back out after they have started filming only to cause more delays and general unorder.

I applause those who made B-movies and the work they did.

In most b-movies, there seems to be more "heart," more "soul" into making the movie. Look no further than to TROMA to see this. Sure, their movies are made on insanely low budgets, and they're pretty s**tty (although intentionally so, and thus excellent), but you know what? You can tell just by WATCHING them that the cast put their heart and soul into making them.

Evil Dead is a prime example of how good a b-movie can be. The budget? Almost non-existant. But you know what? Everybody on the cast put their life into the movie, be it the script, the gore, the suspense...whatever. Raimi, Campbell, and the rest set out to make a good movie, and did whatever they needed to while filming it. And they succeeded in spades.

B-movies also have this sense of "do it yourself" to them. You WANT to make a movie after seeing a b-movie, be it because of the "I could do that better" feeling, or "wow...I'd love to make one like this!"

Because.... "they're getting better" :P

I can respect the above opinions, but I think I approach these films a bit differently.

I like Budget films for the simple fact that most often they truly, madly, deeply, SUCK.

I can have as much fun watching a terrible B-film as I can watching a revolutionary Horror film like The Exorcist or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  And I can enjoy craps films that much because I'm the type of person who is drawn to the absurd.

Unintentional laughs in bad films are just as golden to me as the emotions elicited from effective, well-made horror and sci-fi.

I like B movies simply because they are different.  I'm different, always have been, and I like that just fine.  B movies are pure entertainment, an escape from the bulls**t of reality.

I like them because they can always distract you. It is fun to have a good laugh and every now and then, a good scare to go along with it...

It is a true escape either into hilarity or fear, and that is why B movies must exist.

For me, it's several things.

There is the fact that many of these movies were made according to the vision of one person, instead of a committee, and that they weren't carefully engineered to make the most money. These people told the stories they wanted to tell, and weren't afraid to take chances.

There is my nostalgia for the cheesy movies I enjoyed when I was growing up, many of which were considered good movies at the time.

There is the idea that something can be entertaining without big stars, big budgets or a lot of bells and whistles.

There is the lack of variety in new movies. B-Movies often provide the kind of sci-fi, horror and other stuff that is simply lacking in today's mainstream cinema.

There is a satisfaction in liking something because it really appeals to me, and not because some marketing a***oles tell me it's good.

There is the fun of tracking down the movies I want to see, and in discovering movies I never knew existed.

Finally, there is my love of irony. It's great to find a laugh where none was intended.

Several reasons:

a) Nostalgia. Many people watched this kind of movies as kids and now they still do.

b) Fun factor. They are quite refreshing when compared to mainstream movies. The settings don't blow up every ten minutes, there's planty of profanity, nudity and gore, the story is given more prominence than in A movies...

c) Loyalty. We all would like to see our favourite actors delivering the Oscar acceptance speech, but most times their careers sink so low that the only way to see them in leading roles is watching B-Movies.
