Title: Andrei Rublev (1992)
Post by: Scott on July 29, 2003, 01:07:34 PM
ANDREI RUBLEV (1992) - Well I finally took the time to rent this one. The box claims it to be "One of the top 15 films of all time". It's not bad. The film is like a cross between SEVENTH SEAL and ALEXANDER NEVESKY. The box also compares director Tarkovsky to Eisenstein which the similarities are there the only difference is that these b/w films were made 70 years apart and have the same look and action. The images are some what haunting. The best parts are the appearance of Iconaclast Theophane, the pagans in the woods, the pilaging of the town of Vladimir by the Tartars, and the ringing of the bell. Over 3 hours long. This may be its major drawback because it dosn't take that long to tell this story.

This one is ok, but I liked Seventh Seal (Swedish film?) and Alexander Nevsky (Russian film) better.
