Title: TV Shows You Want Back... Post by: Great Sage on August 11, 2003, 03:24:27 PM With the resurgence of such shows as A-Team, Incredible Hulk and even the Care Bears, why don't the networks bring back some other stuff we haven't seen in a while.
My list: Greatest American Hero—had a great theme song and the humorous parody was cool. Misfits of Science—I saw two episodes and then it was gone... Monsters—Best late-night action in the 90's. Twilight Zone—Scared me stiff as a kid. Wattya think? Title: Re: TV Shows You Want Back... Post by: Dunners on August 11, 2003, 04:15:37 PM Farscape

Post by: Chris K. on August 11, 2003, 09:40:30 PM I always wanted the show FAMILY MATTERS to survive to this very day. I mean, I have nothing but fond memories of the show and I am still entertained it (i.e., it shows up at 8:00 in the morning and I usually catch it). And the show was produced at a time when the old 'TGIF' days actually had a good show to offer before the pre-Disney days.
Sure, 'TGIF' delivered some off-kilter shows like STEP-BY-STEP and BOY MEETS WORLD (two shows that I really hated back then), but FAMILY MATTERS was a trendsetter back in the day. The show wasn't heavily corrupted with "counter culture" like BOY MEETS WORLD and STEP-BY-STEP. Even today, "counter culture" seems to have taken over TV sitcoms rather than just entertaining. Post by: dean on August 12, 2003, 11:43:59 AM i definitely agree with:
Family Guy Farscape Futurama [i miss it already, we haven't even got it on tv here at the moment though there's still a good few seasons left by my count, so hurray!] Haven't even seen Firefly, [not out here] but its done by Joss Whedon [what a champ!] so it must be good, so bring it back so we can see it! wow, they all start with 'F', how about that? odd... um... also definitely M.A.S.K, Voltron, He-Man [ ;-) ] Ghostbusters [animated], Dark Angel [though it would need a major writing revamp] Its a shame Buffy's over, i am still in severe denial [just watched final episode a few hours ago], but i'll get over it eventually :(:(:( and for all you australians out there, bring back micallef, on any station and any format. Damn you to hell channel nine! Title: Re: TV Shows You Want Back... Post by: Dolph Lundgren on August 12, 2003, 12:32:32 PM You guys have some great shows listed here. Really brings back the memories..
I wholeheartedly agree with MST3K. Transformers (the old style, not this new crap) G.I. Joe Thundercats He-Man M.A.S.K. Family Guy Nick Arcade And, the best show ever, that I doubt anyone on here has seen or even remembers.. Video Power. It was a show in the early 90s that was a gameshow for kids. Kids would square off against each other for the rights to run through a giant obstacle course in the end. The obstacle course was littered with hundreds of video games, and you had so long to grab as many as you could. And, if you were lucky, you had the chance to snag a Neo-Geo, which was the mother of all videogame systems at the time. Greatest show ever. Nick Title: Re: TV Shows You Want Back... I can only remember certain episodes, like the one where the main character played the "phoenix" video game in the arcades, used his medallion to get 5 extra games. Then there was anytime automan's car turned a corner and the sidekick got splatted against the window. great stuff. The whole "people use far less electricity during the daytime" is COMPLETELY dated now, just with internet use and all. Didn't both of these shows only last one season? Another one I'd like to bring back, though it'll never happen, was NOWHERE MAN. Cool concept, even if it was an X-Files rip-off. Title: Re: TV Shows You Want Back... Title: Re: TV Shows You Want Back... Post by: Fearless Freep on August 15, 2003, 11:41:20 AM I don't really get nostaligic for T.V. shows to the point of wanting them back. Most shows fit within a cultural context and a personal context and it's hard to think of those shows out of that context. Miami Vice was very much a product of it's time, for example, would it make any sense now?
The exception being shows that were cancelled recently and you wish they would go on, because you are still in the same context Title: Re: TV Shows You Want Back... Post by: The Burgomaster on August 15, 2003, 04:39:08 PM Fearless Freep wrote:
>Most shows fit within a cultural context > and a personal context and it's hard to think of those shows > out of that context. This is true in many cases. ROWAN AND MARTIN'S LAUGH - IN, for instance, was a huge success during its original run. But the show is so "late 60s," that any attempts at reruns have not been very successful. The humor just doesn't translate well to current times. On the other hand, you have shows like LEAVE IT TO BEAVER, which are dated, yet they seem to still appeal to modern audiences. I wonder if DANCE FEVER (with Denny Terrio wearing polyester clothes and gold chains) could ever make a strong comeback on the rerun circuit. Post by: Dave Munger on January 08, 2005, 01:41:00 AM Doooood, "Nowhere Man" wasn't an X-Files rip-off, it was a "Prisoner" rip-off, practically word for word. I think they had to stop making them because there were only 17 episodes to rip off. I liked it, because at least they picked something good to rip off, but I really wished they would've added something, like twist endings so that obsessive "Prisoner" fiends wouldn't always know what was going to happen.
