Title: My Thoughts On Freddy vs. Jason
Post by: Ash on August 15, 2003, 06:15:16 PM
WOW!!

What a kickass film!

Never before have I seen such a brutal hack & slash fest between two characters!
We're talking buckets of blood!

For the most part it was indeed a great film and in my opinion Freddy definitely stole the show.
I found myself rooting for him throughout the entire film.
His one liners were the best!

There were only a few things I didn't care for and that was pretty much the entire cast of teenagers.  The guys were the typical a***oles and all the girls were hot with great tits. (not that that's a bad thing!...it was just too typical)
They all need to take acting lessons.
The main girl in the story is a Brittany Murphy clone.  I could not take my mind off the fact that she looked just like her.
Most of the film was also shot in a metallic blue & green hue which I didn't care for.

The film is worth seeing just to witness the f**king awesome fight between Freddy & Jason!

Go see it NOW!

I agree.  This movie reeked of awesomeosity.  I too couldn't stand the characters but hey then what are they good for if I like them?  Then I would actually hate people getting killed.

This goes right up there with "Evil Dead" in my book.  The movie kicked my ass for the Lord.
My only complaints are a) We don't get to see Freddy recruiting Jason from Hell b) Jason's left eye is supposed to be missing, continuity! and c) the seat I was on had no cushion, just a metal plate, and that sucked.
Can't wait to see it again.  I saw the 7:30 in my town, and when we left, there was already a line out the door for the next showing.  I smell #1 Box Office.

My sister went and saw the 945 showing last night.  She said that they wouldn't open the door to the building until 30 minutes prior for some odd reason but as soon as they did people RAN to the box office to buy tickets.  SO it may possibly be number one.

ALso apparently heated debates are started in the theatres over who wins throughout the movie and one almost ended in a fist fight.
USeless info that I find funny

I went to the 9:45 showing last night, and I can honestly say it was one of the coolest theatergoing experiences I've ever had. As I mentioned before, some friends and I decided to go in costume-- I was Freddy, and we also had a Jason, a Jason X, and two victims (wearing torn up Camp Crystal Lake t-shirts). The first thing we heard approaching the theater was a bunch of teenagers pointing at us and shouting, "Holy s**t! A bunch of crackhead dope addicts!" Then, as we were standing in line, the ticket girl came out and got our attention:

"How many are you?"

"Five."

"You wanna just come in for free? Cause you guys rock my world!"

The movie itself, as has been previously stated, rocked. Hard. In fact, if it doesn't win best picture, I'm gonna be peeved. Not too much plot getting in the way of the fun, just Freddy and Jason hacking up teenagers and letting each other have it, in a couple of scenes that have got to be new classics in exploitation film history.

The crowd was great, too. You could tell they were almost all fans-- cheering the murders, applauding the one-liners, singing along with the Freddy chant, shouting "You DIDN'T just do that!" and "You're f**kED!" whenever a character breaks a horror movie rule.

After the show (about midnight), we went to Denny's for some dinner, and had a long chat with a cool biker-looking couple with similar interests (they knew House of 1000 Corpses fx guru Phil Toth, and the guy is in an upcoming horror movie called Lost). All in all, a thoroughly rocking evening, centered around a kickass film!

This is one of those movies that I pretend I am totally disinterested in seeing and then have to sneak out to watch, much like Spice World(don't judge me). After reading the positive feedback, I'll have to definitely catch this one.

I'll sum this up in four words, followed by an explanation:

Go see this.  NOW.

Seriously, one of the best movies I've seen in the theater in a long time.  It doesn't take itself too seriously, which is exactly what the movie needed in order to be successful.  I find myself agreeing with ASH almost completely, for the most part.  In short, just go see it, even if you're only mildly interested.

Some spoilers . . . Don't read if you plan on seeing the movie:

Freddy definitely stole the show.  Along with the main character and her incredible rack.  WOW.  Sorry, but it had to be pointed out.  I hated all of the teenagers except for her.  She didn't annoy me at all, really.  Everyone else did as far as the teenagers go.

I think this should've been called Crouching Tiger, Hidden Freddy.  You could tell that the movie was directed by a former HK alum.  Freddy actually busts out some brutal moves during this movie, glove-fu, I guess you could call it.  In fact, Freddy pretty much beats the s**t out of Jason for most of the time, which was definitely unexpected, since Freddy usually gets his ass handed to him by the girls in his movies.  However, Jason gets some good shots in, and has the most important one during the end.  GREAT stuff.

Awesome kills as well.  They really didn't cut back on the gore; in fact, I was surprised that they got away with some of the stuff that they did.  This is probably one of the gorier movies I've seen in years, and definitely the goriest movie I've personally seen in a movie theater.  We're talking buckets of blood, impalings, bodies hacked in half.. you name it, it probably happens.  Brutal stuff.  And the cornfield massacre was fantastic.

I didn't mind the ending.  But there will definitely be a sequel, and if it's even half as good as this was, then I'll be happy.

Here's hoping that Ronny Yu comes back if there is a sequel.  He knows what he's doing, and he'll get things done right.

Freddy Vs. Jason was one of the most fun movies that I've seen in a theater in awhile.  Simply mindless and brutal fun.  Go see it.

Nick

AHHH, sweeeet.    I had my fingures crossed that they wouldn't mess this up (ahem, jason x....ewwww, yet it was enjoyable as 8 and 9 was...just....*dies*), and oh my God, I was blown away.  The cinafortography was highend, top notch.  The content was perfect (imediatly there was ass n tities, awsome ridiculos cliche and tradition. I'm sure it was a joke on all the other movies), bad acting ANOYING teens (like as was previously said is good cuz it makes ur cheer for their death), and the blood, blood, blood and more blood.   I love how part of the opening sceen you hear the famous Chee-chee-chee-chee ahhh-ahhh-ahhh-ahhh as the camera rolls across the street sighn ELM STREET, heh heh heh.

And the fact that it made u feel like you were in a Jason movie, then switch to a fredy movie with the typical camera angles for each film.

The only thing bad I gotta put down though is part of the final sceen.  Was there really a need to freaking blow up all the tankers?  pssh, people and their finally explotions, lol.   Oh, and the main chick, I didn't like here, and the actress was trashing the movie saying it was typical garbage, what a b***h.

Anyway, 5 stars baby (in my book anyway).  can't wait to see it again!

It was number one this weekend at the box office...of course, I don't think it had much competition.

It would be funny if it did it again next weekend, since hardly any of the big summer blockbusters have been able to do as well after the opening weekend.

I'll probably wait for video, because I'm not a big fan of either series.

Well after telling my husband the ultrasound showed twins and him freaking out hysterically- thank God it is only one after that. Then turning around and having my water break just enough to really freak him out- he took me to see this film.

He is not a Jason nor a Freddy fan so I was not expecting him to take me at all.

Oh My God this was a killer film. Great hack and slash at it's finest. He even jumped out of his skin at a scene where Freddy just pops out.

Of course I had to sit through his normal dissection of the movie as it is being played. This is something I have so grown accustomed too that I just keep on watching the movie and answering him. I think the worst part of his comparisons with thte movie is the pot smoking teen- all he could do was die of laughter and say OH MY GOD WHERE IS SILENT BOB!!!!

By the end of the movie he did say it was good and he liked it.

If there is a chance at a sequel of some kind I am sure I will be there.

Title: Jason's Ressurection
Post by: Ash on August 18, 2003, 01:21:50 AM
Freddy just gave Jason a little convincing.

You have to suspend disbelief to realize that Jason had the power to ressurect himself...he just needed a little prodding that's all.

Title: Decent Flick
Post by: Mr_Vindictive on August 18, 2003, 08:29:11 AM
I was seriously looking forward to this flick.  I was all but bouncing in my seat when the opening credits hit (Fantastic Credits BTW).

But, once the film got into full swing, I was a little let down.  You have to keep in mind that I'm not a Freddy fan.  I only like a few of the Nightmare On Elm Street films.  I hate his one liners, I just....really dislike Freddy.

My wife on the other hand is an avid Freddy fan.  She grew up with the NOES films the same way that I did with the Friday 13th flicks.  So, this flick was a pure treat for her.

I think that my main complaint was with Jason.  He didn't walk or kill like Jason.  WHERE IS KANE HODDER!?!?!?

The ending was pretty fun at least.  Jason kicked some almighty ass.

Over all I was slightly disappointed, while my wife was estatic.  It was pretty awesome to see Jason on Elm Street.

I'm surprised that so many of you liked this movie. I haven't seen it yet (in fact, I promised myself that I would not waste my time and money), but all of the positive comments in this thread may have changed my mind.

This movie has "It can't POSSIBLY be any good" written all over it. But now I'm curious to give it a try . . .

I figured I should mention this as it is important.  Aparently there are two or three different endings to this flick depending upon what theatre you goto.  Therefore if you see this movie in a different theatre you may very well see a different ending. :D

This is according to the directors interview I read on IGN.

Here in Quebec we almost only have the french traduction (that sucks) but the movie still f**king rules.

Freddy the control on Jason almost all the movie. Freddy is so cool.

I have seen somewhere that they want to do Freddy vs Jason vs Ash (evil dead). I'm sure it's a stupid joke (even for a very serious website), but i think of it, and damn, that would be cool !

I don't know why you people like this movie so much? The acting was horrible, there were big plot holes and the plot was kinda stupid.I will admet that the fight scenes between Freddy and Jason were damn cool, but other than that the movie sucked.

Title: Re: My Thoughts On Freddy vs. Jason
Post by: Jack Deth on August 18, 2003, 01:41:12 PM
To answer your query wyckednick, this series has never had a solid plot (Friday The 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street).  As the series evolved and continued each director took whatever liberties they wanted to with the plot.  The enjoyment comes from watching some very creative death scenes and, well that's about it.  I've only found a few in each series to actually be frightning.  However they are enjoyable if you don't take things too seriously.

I still haven't seen the movie yet, but as always I'm rooting for Jason (Too bad Kane Hodder isn't playing Jason - as I'm sure that will take away from the film).  It's rather dissapointing since when you have a character that has no dialogue or recognizable face, the actors movements become the sole form of recognition (Think of The Shape in Halloween).  Hopefully the sequeal will re-employ Kane Hodder.  He certainly has Jason's movements and actions down to a tee.

Post by: Dolph Lundgren on August 18, 2003, 08:12:47 PM
That's why we liked it, nick.  The scenes between Jason and Freddy were awesome.  And as for the bad acting, it's practically been a staple for both series.  So it's something that we've come to accept.  Just like there is always gonna be nudity and that one guy that we all want to see die.  It's all part of the Friday the 13th/Nightmare on Elm Street charm.  At least for me it is.

Unfortunately, I see the movie taking a pretty steep dive in box office next week.  Besides us, the word-of-mouth that I've read hasn't been positive at all.  Fanboys are b***hing left and right about the campiness of the film, amongst several other things (horrible acting, Jason becoming humanized, etc.).  Just goes to show that you can't please everyone, especially with a film like this.  Nevertheless, let's hope that Freddy vs. Jason continues to make some massive bank for the next few weeks.

Nick

The TV station logo was KRGR.  (Krueger)

Yes, just seen this one this afternoon. I liked JASON X and also like FREDDY VS JASON. I could never get into Freddy, but this movie helped just like JASON X helped me to like Jason again. Because I like the first FRIDAY THE 13TH but couldn't watch those slasher movies anymore. This was a great one. Kinda like King Kong vs Godzilla. Or Dracula vs Frankenstein. They did a good job on FREDDY VS JASON. Check it out.

I pointed that out immediately to my buddy Meehan, as he is as big a horror fan as I am (maybe even bigger) in these parts.

Another interesting note:
The girl that played the girlfriend of the first victim? Recognize her? Katherine f**king Isabelle. What? You don't know who she is? FOR SHAME! Katherine Isabelle played Ginger in the movie GINGER SNAPS, everybody's favorite teenage sexy werewolf.

Title: Thought - and what about different endings?
Post by: Neon Noodle on September 01, 2003, 12:26:59 AM
I have to say, I just got back from a night showing and I was very suprised.....This was actually a great slasher movie!

No, not a horror movie - I wasn't scared at all, and spent most of the time laughing at the goofy antics from the stoned teens (onscreen and off) and Freddy's one liners. The gore hasn't been this high since the 4th movie! Looks like the MPAA must have gone to sleep on this one...

My ending had Jason carrying Freddy's severed head out of the water. Someone said earlier there were different endings.....is this the truth, Ruth? Or just another rumor to spend more money?

Only question left - does it get filed under nightmare on elm street films or friday the 13th films?

I loved this film. Teh acting actually wasnt as bad as everyone says it was.

Monica Keena who is the 'britney murphy clone' was a really good actress and had some good material to work with.

Robert Englund as freddy, talk about evil. he plays this straight instead of campy and is pretty creepy.

Ken kirzinger was a really good Jason.

as for katherine Isablle, I didnt think she was anything special. yeah I've never seen Ginger snaps and I thoguth she was a pretty plain actress.

everyone else did a good job, Kelyl rowalnd up until her last few lines was pretty good.

th eonly good kills really were the bed and the splitter. Everythign else was kind of tame. thought grand finale fight though, whoa... intense stuff. I loved the ambiguous ending.

Not true, it was considered and there actually is an alternate ending that will be on the DVD, but there is only one in theatres.

As far as my opinion goes, I really enjoyed it.  I saw it twice, and it was almost as good the second time.  Great nightmare sequences (Freddy should have had another kill at least though, IMO), a great early sequence with Jason (though he only gets one kill that is done in his style from the Friday films, the bed kill which OWNED), and an awesome climax.

I'd give it an 8 out of 10, but it is nearly a 9.

Title: My thoughts with spoilers
Post by: Evan3 on September 03, 2003, 03:34:30 AM
I have seen this movie last Friday, but recently, this sight and my computer have not seemed to cooperate, making it so slow, meaning I dont get to respond all that often.

Anyways, I decided to try to stop moping and watch a fun flick, and unfortunately, I was not too moved.

First, I always thought that this really was a mismatch of villians, I really thought a more appropriate fight would be Mike myers Vs. Jason and Freddy Vs. Pinhead and his gang from Hellraiser. I thought that they spent way too much time attempting to get Freddy with Jason, fighting over "home ground" and other things.

However, when the two villians did get together, i will admit that it was truly fun to watch them fgo at it, it was nice to see Freddy for once portrayed as a competent fighter, although I really really wish they had let Jason have a few good licks. Im sorry, but Freddy truly is a wus, and it would have been nice to let jason have his way with Freddy without the help of those meddlesome kids.

I have never seen a Nightmare movie, so I was also a little put off by this being more of a Freddy movie when I came hoping to see Jason dominate.

I also hated that Jay from Jay and Silent Bob wannabee. He acted like Jay, dressed like Jay, was as obnoxious as Jay, looked like Jay and thankfully was killed but not as painfully as he should have been.

Anyways, it was all right, I actually thought the blood was a little too excessive, and because I think it dragged so much with trying to get the villains to meet, I got bored. I still think that the Bride of Chucky is still the most fun and successful ressurection of these classic killers, and perhaps those screenwriters should be hired for any sequals.

On a high note, I hear that Newline or whoever put out this film is now buying the rights to Michael Myers and will throw him into the mix. My god, now THAT would be real mayhem, to have Freddy trying to keep these two psychos off of each other.

Title: crossovers
Post by: dean on September 03, 2003, 08:17:51 AM

it seems as though now that feddy vs jason has come out, everyone is putting forward ideas for crossing over characters from various movies with one another.  i'm still waiting for the pinhead vs britney spears movie, i'm sure its going to be alot of choreographed violence.

but i'm starting to worry... just saw an ad for the upcoming movie 'rugrats go wild' [i'm sure it's already on video in US] and this startled me slightly; the rugrats and some other cartoon crossover?  wow, what a surprise.

it reminds me of when everyone jumped on the comic book movie bandwagon after the relative successes of spawn, blade and xmen.

is everyone planning a bloody crossover now??

*sigh*

I saw FvsJ about a week ago with my brother. I havn't seen any of the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies but I know Jason moves LOOOOOOOOOONG ways back (I saw the end of Friday the 13th with my friends when I was 9) The movie was going o.k. with me that is until Freddy and Jason started duking it out, by the point them movie just got AWESOME. But the one thing I'll complain about is Jason was using the same weapon all the time, a machete, what's up with that. Before he's used small knives AND big knives, racks, axes, pick axes, sharp wire, spears, more knives, a hackshaw, he's knocked people off the top of buildings, and thrown people clear out of buildings (I'm taking about the one in Manhatten). He was so... diverse in the way he killed people in the past..oh well that's my one complaint, I kinda liked how he was afraid of water, but my brother says that he's swam before in water. Don't know but I still like the idea. David gives Freddy vs. Jason 4/5. Have a good day people.

Oh I dont knbow, maybe it is because Jason is so much better with a machete than with ANYTHING ELSE EVER!!!

But the destructo bed death was maybe the best one, and didnt he use some sort of Javellin too???

Title: Jason and water
Post by: Jim H on September 06, 2003, 01:53:13 AM
Major Spoilers

He used a pole of some kind, another of his classic weapons.  I also would of liked a few more non-machette kills.

I can remember several non-machette kills...  Two pole kills, one electrocution, one neck snap...  Freddy's arm (ouch!  I guess he didn't REALLY deliver the final blow, but Freddy was out after that either way).  But yeah, the majority were still machette.  Oh well.  They should of had a couple more bare hand kills, I always liked those - like Jason ripping the guys heart out in Jason Lives, or shoving the girls face into the side of the RV in Jason Lives (Jason Lives, part 6, is, discounting FVJ, probably my second favorite of the series).

**END**

On Jason and water - he was only afraid in the dream world, where Freddy pulled up the fear from his past as a child.  That's my explanation.  Yes, he goes in water in the other movies.  The scene in Jason Lives where he does that was very cool...  Tommy Jarvis is out in a boat, and Jason just walks straight out in the water, along the bottom, to reach the boat.
