Title: Whats up with only showing the sequals on tv
Post by: wickednick on September 20, 2003, 01:34:02 AM
Ive always wondered why the sequals to movies are always shown more often on tv, and they are always the worst of the sequals too. I'll see Alien 3 and Alien resurection more times then I will see Alien or Aliens.Or take Nightmare on Elmstreet and Friday the 13th. You almost never see the first movie, I dont think I have ever seen the first Nightmare on Elmstreet on tv.The only time your going to see the first Haloween movie is around Haloween time but they will play its sequals, and mostly they are either 2 or 3, all the time.
So why is it that they just play the sequals, and almost never the originals.

I think it's cheaper to show the sequals

I think Freep is right, the sequels are probably cheaper to get the rights to than the originals.

I know what you mean.  When it comes to the Batman series, it seems the one that gets most play is Batman and Robin (excuse the vomit).  Even Batman Forever has played a couple of times (TNT is the cuprit).  It might be the network is being cheap, but I also think it is popularity, or lack thereof.  Batman and Batman Returns both respectivly past the decade mark, but will have commercial a week in advance to tell viewers when it will broadcast.  The only exception is The Mummy.  I see it constantly on TV, yet I haven't seen The Mummy Returns (and that's basic cable, I don't have the movie and pay per view channels)
