Remember the VERY short-lived TV series called STRUCK BY LIGHTNING that he was in back in the late 1970s or early 1980s? It was a half hour sitcom and he played a character that was supposed to be like a Frankenstein monster or something. I don't think it lasted for even half a season before it was canceled.

He will be missed. As I understand it, he started out being an accountant, before he turned to acting. Good career choice change. Would you trust your money to a man who looked like that?

Oh man, I completely forgot Struck by Lightning. I thought it was pretty funny, but I was a kid then.

Loved him in Support Your Local Sheriff, where he was shovelling horse.....working around the stable. He was also one of the best characters in Cannonball Run.

Sad to say, I wasn't aware he was still alive.

Jack was one of my Dad's favorite character actors. I remember we were watching High Noon on TV once when I was a kid and my Dad says "All this movie needs is for Jack Elam to show up ."  About that time there is a scene where Gary Cooper goes into a cell at the jail to roust as drunk from sleeping it off , and the drunk is none other than Jack Elam.

He did play a great many small parts in old Westerns.  One of my favorite character actors was Lee Van Cleef  (who also appeared in High Noon). Does anyone know if he is still around?

I think Lee Van Cleef died about 15 years ago. He was a great one.
