Title: Live-Action Evangelion Film?(!)
Post by: -=NiGHTS=- on January 25, 2004, 09:40:43 PM
I head a little something about this.  Apparently there are some concept sketches floating around on the internet, I've seen a couple but I'm afraid I can't remember the link.

Anyway, supposedly, the WETA workshop is working on (at least) the pre-conception of the effects.  So if it's even made, if the story is mutilated at least it'll be fun to look at.

I personally think that more movies need giant robots--this might fill a niche!

Anyone have any more info?

Now we just need a live-action Transformers.  I remember reading about the live action Eva flick last winter somewhere.  I hope it gets made well, and I hope it gets made soon.  The world needs a movie like this.

That would be nice. I'd like a life size Invid Shock Trooper to go with it. I know they're not from the same series, I just want one!

I read in a recent issue of "New Type USA" that  a live action version of "Gigantor"/"Tetsujin 28 gou" is going to be released in Japan this year.

Not in the same league as an 'Evangelion" film but it might be interesring. I still think any or all of the "Patlabor" films would make great live-action adaptions.

I've got no idea how an Evangelion film would work.  And I've already seen a couple of the name changed they're throwing around:

Asuka Langley Sorhyuu, the half-German, half-Japanese girl becomes: Kate Rose.

Rei becomes : Ray.

Yeesh.

The name changes suck, is this an american venture or a japanese venture?

Either way, they should keep the names, it's not that difficult to follow.

Speaking of Anime remakes, I'm sure that you've heard that they may be planning an Akira live action.

Personally I'd like to see a Live version of Bubblegum Crisis 2040.

Either that or some freaky Japanese Hentai, that would be so disturbing live action.

Ninja Scroll would also be another good one.

If they do make any live action anime films, I hope the Japanese DON'T do them. The few that I've seen so far have been lousy.

The Akira remake has been 'in pre-production' for yeeeeaaarrrs.  Never gonna come out, I bet.

Okay, I was going to stay out of this topic, honest I was.  I don't have high hopes for the Evangelion movie - animated films based on Anime are a mixed bag at best; why would we expect live action to be any better?  Also, when was the last time you saw a good, truely good, live action movie about giant robots?  My hopes are not high.  I hope I'm wrong, but if they're starting off by changing all the names, that's not a good sign...

But on to what made me comment in the first place:

BGC 2040 SUCKED.  I'm sorry, that's just one man's opinion, but I honestly believe that giving 2040 the title Bubblegum Chrisis was a slap in the face to the original BGC - which was probably the best cyberpunk series ever.  If not the best, it was one of the best.  2040 was bland and flavorless be comparison - it completely pales before the series that supposedly inspired it.

Sorry.  Got carried away.  I hope I didn't insult any fans of 2040.  That was not my intent - I am  a die-hard fan of the original series, and it kind of comes through.  If anyone was offended, I apologized unreservedly - that was not my intent.

Besides, I'm holding out for a live action version of the original BGC...

"BGC 2040 SUCKED. I'm sorry, that's just one man's opinion"

don't be sorry, I didn't even know there was a first series, so I guess the second had a lot to live up to, and obviously failed.

Nevertheless I liked the series, that and Gunsmith Cats are two favourites of mine.  I could imagine Gunsmith Cats being an incredibly dodgy movie that would have the essence of that Starsky and Hutch movie coming out with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.  Or at least that's how I see it being made [except not with funny people, but try-hard funny people]

The movie will be done by 3 important companies:Gainax, ADV films and Weta Workshop (the same of The Lord of the Rings.)This live_action movie is going to be acted by:
Daniel Radcliffe-Shinji
Chiaki Kuriyama: Rei
Hillary Duff: Asuka
Haley Joel Osment: Kaworu
Natalie Imbruglia: Misato, etc
*Matt Greenfield is already writting this movie

I agree that the eva pilots names should stay the same.  Also I think that they could have gotten actors that resembled the anime characters more.  But above all else I believe that if Gainex skrews up this movie heads will be rolling.  La resistance.  If it was my choice I would have just brought over the updated anime version of eva and scrapped the live movie, ya know its probably going to suck.

A live action Ninja Scroll would kick ass! I'd love to see the sword fight in the bamboo forrest done with live people.
Anyone eles think a live action version of Tenchi Muyo would rock the casbah?

Natalie Imbruglia as Misato?? how does that work, she's too cute and not tough enough!

I could think of some better choices. [I've also seen her act, she aint bad, but she ain't good either!]
