Title: I saw Ghosts of Mars
Post by: Chadzilla on September 02, 2001, 01:53:26 AM
Well, I managed to get out of the house and get to a matinee showing of John Carpenter's latest movie.

Well Ghosts of Mars is nothing knew to those familiar with the man's work. It's an action suspense movie in the vein of Assault on the Precinct 13, Escape from New York, and his classic remake of The Thing.

Miners open up a tomb of sorts that unleashes the spore of Mars original inhabitants, who do not take kindly to having their home infested with humans. Town by town the swirling dust sweeps in, 'possesses' humans who then kill the rest. Violent, funny, and gory Ghost of Mars delivers a cheap b-movie thrill, nothing more. It's a keeper for me though it had it's problems.

Of interest - I found a great deal of the plot resembling events in Stephen King's horror novel Desperation, where a Nevada mining town is overrun by a demonic dust of sorts that possesses some people who then kill the rest and then having Ice Cube's character nick name being "Desolation"? An in-joke?

First impression - four slimes.

This is a definite dvd for me. I loved this flick and would rank it up there with They Live and Escape From N.Y. Too bad nobody it going to see this film. It made just a few dollars more than Bubble Boy. Now that is truely pathetic.

Sorry Mr. Carpenter, but I did my part. I paid to see your awesome new flick. Too bad your other so called fans turned out to be a bunch of backstabbers and avoided your new flick like it was the damned plague.
