Title: Didn't catch that name
Post by: fritz21 on April 05, 2004, 12:46:55 PM
In NORTH BY NORTHWEST, I never got the name of the most important of Van Damme's thugs. I'm thinking of the one that murdered Townsend, wears the tan suit, and is thrown off Mount Rushmore in the climatic chase/fight. Anyone catch that?
Also, in both THE BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER KWAI and THE GUNS OF NAVARONE, there are credited characters named Grogan. In which scenes are they in?
In A BRIDGE TOO FAR, I seem to have missed Ryan O'Neal and Gene Hackman. What scenes were they in?
Thanks for your help.

BRIDGE TOO FAR - Gene Hackman plays a Polish officer.  I think most of his scenes are near the beginning (basically sitting in meetings).  I can't remember exactly which scenes Ryan O'Neal is in.  I think that the movie's biggest flaw is that there are too many stars, and most of them aren't on screen long enough to make it worthwhile.

I can't be sure, but I think the henchman in NORTH BY NORTHWEST was named Valerian and was played by Adam Williams. Again, that's only an educated guess looking at the credits.
Gene Hackman played General (guessing on spelling) Sosabayski. He was at the meeting with Urquahart where the annoying guy points to the wall for their landing site. He becomes angry and leaves. I missed O'Neal too, but he played General Gavin if that helps. The Burgomaster is right, it's really only a Robert Redford-Sean Connery-James Caan film, while everyone else is doomed to cameos.

"BATEMAN!!!!!"
