Title: News for Captain Scarlet fans......
Post by: trekgeezer on July 27, 2004, 10:51:46 AM
Here's little article about  what Gerry Anderson thinks of the new Thunderbirds film and what he has been up to.  There is a link to the trailer for  the Captain Scarlet  CGI series. You have to have Real Player or the Real Player plug-in to view it.

Anderson has no intrest in the T-Birds flick? That sound odd....
Did he have any creative control over the film? Or were the rights sold, so he could get the funds to do Capt. Scarlet?

Evidently he didn't own the rights, he was never even consulted about  Tbirds.

CGI Captain Scarlet sounds awful, Thunderbirds movie looks bad... I think we need some more super marionation

Seen some clips, and Bill Paxton looks good, really has that puppet look. It's all the fresh young faces with him that make me think this movie has been seriously botched.

As for CGI Captain Scarlet, it will probably go the way of CGI Voltron, CGI Starship Troopers, Action Man, etc. Seems like a doomed idea to me. Haven't seen too many CGI shows that couldn't have been just as good as regular cartoons. Seems like the CGI is there for its own sake. Oooo look, it's CGI! Granted, this could be considered the modern equivalent of supermarionation, but the average kid is just going to see this as another CGI show.

It's being called HyperMarionation and Gerry is evidently juiced about it. How could it be worse than puppets  that can't pick anything up and don't get shown walking much.

The whole reason I ever watched any of Anderson's shows was for the super marionation, that was like his trademark. If the shows were live action I don't think they would of had any charm really.
