Title: ORGY OF THE DEAD
Post by: The Burgomaster on August 15, 2004, 07:31:26 AM
First of all, let me congratulate the people over at Rhino for releasing this DVD with such a sharp picture (amazingly rich colors) and very good audio.

Now for the movie itself.  A genuine piece of crap from screenwriter Ed Wood.  The movie starts with Criswell, wearing a black cape, sitting up in his coffin to deliver his opening monologue.  (You can see his eyes moving back and forth as he reads his cue cards).

The rest of the movie is basically a seemingly endless procession (this movie goes on for 90 minutes!) of strippers "taking it off" on a cheesy graveyard set.  Criswell is joined by a Vampira-type woman, a mummy (his costume looks like thermal underwear) and a werewolf (who lifts his head to howl and reveals that he has no hair on his neck below his werewolf mask).

If they had edited this down to about 70 minutes it would have been a great/hilarious cheese-fest.  But the endless stripteases just get boring and Criswell and his buddies don't interrupt with their inane dialogue often enough.

Oh man, this is one that my wife detests.  And then there is the fact that heterosexual men do not enjoy it either.  Burgo, you are dead on about it endless.  The film quickly becomes scene after scene of dubiously chosen women performing "erotic" dances.

I'd review it, but worry about constantly repeating myself...

The only thing I'd like to add is that in the beginning of the film there is possibly THE WORST "day-for-night" shot ever, as the young to-be-victimised couple is cruising along in their car to the cemetary.  I've worn sunglasses in less-bright days . . .

Criswell and that wacky car ride dialogue were the only things the movie had going for it. The movie  is still very fun viewing. The Werewolf and Mummy  is were I draw the line.
