Title: What is the most "embarressing" movie you own?
Post by: loyal1 on August 24, 2004, 08:58:28 AM
Come on I know you have at LEAST one movie you don't want to admit you own...perhaps could be the worst. but you can't help but liking it...perhaps even love it!

So fess up, which is it?

I guess I will have to fess up too.....so here goes............oh boy......................

Ocean's Eleven (the new version) and mary Poppins.

There I said it!

Heartbeeps. I don't like it, but I do own it, and it's kind of embarassing.

Showgirls.  And I have never been able to watch it all the way through.  It's just that wretched.

Funny point, we studied Showgirls the other day at Uni, part of Cult/Trash cinema.  We study the classics, as you may tell.

What's so bad about Oceans 11 and Mary Poppins, sure Mary Poppins is a bit iffy to own, but the new Oceans 11 was a great, well made movie.

There are two dvds that people consider I should be embarrassed about: Double Dragon and Plan 9 From Outer Space, but as a bad movie fan, I'm pretty proud of both.

I'm going to have to say Gone In 60 Seconds - The new Cage trash flick.

I hate hate hate hate it.

Someone gave it to me as a gift and I unfortunatly opened it and watched it.

Awful.

I like the movies too, and why I own them, however, I do get picked on for it.  They always tell me that the original for Ocean's Eleven is WAAAAY better, and the remake shouldn't have been done, but I like the remake.  Loved Carl Reiner in the film...and the guy who plays Sol.

Mary Poppins...well that is a nostagic film for me...just loved it as a kid, and it still gets to me now.  It is a bit embarressing, but I still keep it out with all my other collections...looks pretty funny sitting between Dr. Strangelove and a Clockwork Orange though...lol

Mary Poppins is an entertaining movie and a classic, and it has an entire Simpsons episode based on it. I wouldn't be embarassed about it. Of course, if I did own it, people would assume it was part of my wife's collection of musicals. Come to think of it, she might own it. I'm going to check that.

You just reminded me of two student films I did...I did 5 all together, but 2 should be burned and out of the acrchives.  Oh how awful!  I cringe when my mother wants to show people so I confiscated them...lol  Now they are safely buried in my apartment.

Although the burning of the tapes sounds great...........hmmmmm

I am a bit embarrased that I own, and enjoy, the "Guyver". I'm talking about the live action american one, we go way back so I don't hate it. Another one I'm embarrased about is also "Guyver" related. It's episode 8 of the Japanese Guyver t.v. show. It's dubbed (quite badly) and they made this one bad-ass character into a dork (Aptom). I'm embarrased that I own this episode but thankfully I own the DVD with the original Japanese language.

I'm sure I have movies more embarrashing but I can't think of them now.

Daredevil.  Mind you, I didn't see it in theaters, I've all heard word of mouth about bad it is. But just had to buy the dvd out of curiosity, and now that I've seen it, that was a good $20 wasted.

Phoenix The Warrior. I could easily justify that purchase in terms of the philosophy of this very site, but frankly it was driven by my a bout of 80s nostalgia that my penis was going through at the time.

Title: Re: What is the most "embarressing" movie you own?

I also liked the new Ocean's 11 a lot, though the ending of the original is way, way better than the ending of the remake. My favorite part of the remake was how the style of talking rubbed off on my friends and I walking out of the theater-- I won a teddy bear in the claw machine in the lobby, and still managed to act cool doing it!

As for embarassing videos... Can't think of many off the top of my head, though the random placement of The Naked Man (co-written by Ethan Coen) next to Frankenhooker on my shelf has gotten me lots of funny looks (including from my mom).

I love the Guyver, I always show it off to people too. As long as I like it, I'm not embarassed about it.

I'm pretty emabrassed for owning:

Down to Earth
Spawn
Blair Witch
Austin Powers
From Hell
Dracula 2000

I got all these movies just cause I bought them at Blockbuster on clearance

Hmmmm...I'd have to say Witchouse II: Blood Coven was the most embarassing, but I sold it the other day to the Newbury Comics in Natick.

Now, I guess it's The Crow: Salvation, considering every other movie I own is good.

I have a ton of them.  I'm both embarrassed AND proud to own these:

* THE BOY IN THE PLASTIC BUBBLE (a terrible quality DVD from the now defunct "Dimension" company)

* FOOTLOOSE

* MARY POPPINS (loyal, you aren't alone)

* Most of the Rock Hudson comedies from the 1960s (usually co-starring people like Doris Day and Tony Randall)

* GREASE

* THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL (an Abba documentary)

* POLLYANNA

* THE PARENT TRAP (original)

* HOW TO STUFF A WILD BIKINI

* MUSCLE BEACH PARTY / SKI PARTY (double feature)

* DIRTY DANCING

* CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG

* LEGALLY BLONDE (PARTS I and II)

* THE MONKEES (both complete seasons)

And there are probably about 20 more that I can't think of right now.

I'm at work, so I can't remember all of them... but here are a few:

Zoolander
Resident Evil
Charlie's Angels
S.W.A.T

I also had the displeasure of purchasing this "sequal" (or not, I don't even know) "I'll Kill You, I'll Bury You, I'll Spit on Your Grave Too".  Now, I know this is a site to embrace, if you will, B-movies, but this piece of s**t should be the first to fall under the catergoy "V-movie" meaning, this thing is was done entirely with a video camera and nothing more.  The acting would make porn stars Oscar winners.

Zoolander isn't embarassing. That movie is great! One of Ben Stiller's finest. (Of course, 90% of Ben's movies are crap, so that's not saying much... but still, Zoolander is an awesome movie.)

If you said you owned Starsky and Hutch, then you'd have something to be embarassed about. I rented that for free (thanks to Blockbuster's "guaranteed in stock or it's free" promise)... and I still felt ripped off.

By the end of the movie I was too bored and annoyed to laugh at anything. But I did think ONE part of the movie was hillarious- when Hutch got stabbed in the arm with that kitchen knife. His response to the pain almost had me in tears.

Well, I can't say I really liked this one, but I will say it's one of those things you can be proud you actually managed to get through: "I actually sat and watched this [expletive] through to the end! Aren't you glad people like me exist to review this stuff so you don't have to?"

Current boast: I survived "Red-Blooded American Girl."

It's lame, lame, lame! My father bought it online for $2.50, and it was overpriced at that. When I mentioned I wanted to do a review of it for this site, Dad asked "why watch it if you know it's that bad?" To this I replied "You saw the trailer! Why did you BUY it?" His reply: "The price was right." No it wasn't! The trailer was surely enough of a tip-off in itself that the film was going to suck: it had the topless hooker in it, as well as practically everything else to tip us off that it was nothing but soft-core porn.

I've written a review for it for this site, and am still hoping to get Andy's mailing address so I can fob this film off on him. But I'm still proud I actually sat through this trash... twice! (The second time, I was doing my review of it.) MST3K is gone; somebody's got to do it!

Title: The Worst Witch
Post by: Ash on August 25, 2004, 03:03:36 AM
Remember that old 1986 feature called "The Worst Witch" starring Fairuza Balk as Mildred Hubble and Tim Curry as The Grand Wizard?
It had a Halloween theme and is quite a lot like Harry Potter in many aspects.
I got it for free when I used to work at a local video store.

Remember that one?

I have seen this monstrocity...in fact if you do a search we mentioned this film before and Susan gave the most HILARIOUS link that commentates on the whole Tim Curry scene when they finally introduce him.  Remember the song "Anything Can Happen on Hallowen" and the sad excuse for special effects in the background???

At least the wizard in Harry Potter didn't break out into song for no apparent reason! lol.

Actually, i will do a search now and get that link...it is so worth seeing again!

That was f**king hilarious!

I like this pic the best:

He looks like he just smoked the best weed in the world!

Tim Curry always strikes a funny chord with me because he looks ALMOST EXACTLY like my uncle Gary.  (my mom's brother)
He looks most like my uncle in "Scary Movie 2"  and "Congo" when he has the beard & moustache like in this pic:

(http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Cinema/2636/th-yum.jpg)

I actually bought my uncle "Scary Movie 2"  as a funny joke one recent Christmas.
We all watched it together and everyone laughed their asses off at how much he looks like Curry.
He took it pretty good.
He said he was gonna burn the tape when no one was around.

One other funny fact....
Tim Curry & I share the same birthday....April 19th.

Hehe!

Yeah I love that link, hilarity through and through.

I have a secret for you...I use to have a crush on Tim Curry, so you can imagine my horror and confusion when I saw the First Witch!  I only rented it because he was in it.

If you could have only seen my face upon first viewing.  It was like I was in shock, and I couldn't move "Turn off the video! Don't turn it off! keep it on! turn it off!"  My mind and heart in a whirl...it's like watching your best friend go up for a stand up act and no one is laughing at their jokes.

PS.  Weird about your Curry "relations"

As Mel Brooks once said in reply to a woman that told him his film the Producers was vulgar:

"Lady, it rose below vulgarity."  Love that quote and the movie.

This movie is the WORST, but soooo worth it to see Tim Curry in his "10 minute music video" (as painful as it is to see).  The link is much more funny after you watch it.

Let me know your thoughts when you do see it........

Don't forget to read the entire "Worst Witch" saga. It's divided in articles, here's where it begins Worst witch (http://www.x-entertainment.com/worst.html)
Do not doubt the diabolical nature of this film...nor Curry's contribution to creating one of the most disturbing sequences of visual effects ever layed out on film.

And for curry fans here's a fun little link on the same site Curry Curse  (http://www.x-entertainment.com/messages/477.html)

Btw some ofyou people aren't fessing up. I KNOW you have way more embarasing stuff than that. I'm sure nobody will confess they have "Dying Young" or some other chick flick without saying it's their wifes movie. Some dark secrets were never meant to be discovered i guess.

Well, I do have a copy of Silence Like Glass, a touchy-feely chick flick with Jami Gertz as a dancer with cancer. Can't remember if she dies or not. Mostly a lot of hugging and crying. I bought a box of used movies, and it was in there. Watched it once. I don't even think it's on the shelf. I think I stuck it in a box in the basement, with a bunch of old taped TV episodes.

Andy, I remember that film! I saw it years ago at that magic hour of 3am when anything on tv seems like a really good movie. But definately a certified chick flick, that means someone has to come down with a terminal illness and die.  Havent' seen it in years I guess i can relate, when i was 19 i had to watch my close friend die of cancer. I had totally forgotten about that flick

Is BBB the one where they're making a porno movie and they somehow get some really huge actor like Nickleson to be in it (they show people talking to him on the phone) and then other huge stars start lining up to be in it and investors get attracted by the stars and it becomes this huge thing so the beatch bums are rich at the end? Hey!  I proudly own this movie.

Yes it is very bad, but some of the women are actually quite attractive.  Also I think Jim Hanks gets a few good scenes and at least one good line: "This reminds you of your house?"

Other than that, it's awful.  God awful.

Really?
What's the address for it?

Also, It's kinda scary how much Fairuza Balk has changed.
She went from innocent looking girl in The Worst Witch to this:

Well, we just don't get many females in the clubhouse for some weird reason.  Which is sad because the main reason I got into watching cheesy movies was because I thought it'd get me chicks....

(Or was it because I never could get any chicks?  Can't remember which now....)
