Title: "habit"---a modern classic...
Post by: the gooch on October 14, 2001, 05:10:32 AM
finally took this one off my shelf...
this is one of the few recent films that
i'd lump into a modern-classic pile.

i think this is a really good independent vampire
movie. i got scared cause the box said "erotic" in the
description. makes me think of those bad extended
cinemax scenes with lots of arms and legs and dim
lighting...but it wasn't like that at all. and the legitimate
critical praises on the box were encouraging.

if you like romero's "martin" (1977)---it's that sort
of film on a smaller scale (but not from
the vampire's pov). with a little "taxi driver" and "slackers"
thrown in style-wise. it's really pretty believable in the way
it addresses the question "what would happen
if vampires existed and a regular-type alcoholic
guy started dating one accidentally."

it doesn't go for scares. but the story is really good and
winds up creeping you out.

anyone else dig this one???

I have yet to see it, but it's playing on IFC (Independent Film Channel) this Saturday, Oct 19 at 6:00 am ET (or late Friday night 3:00 am PT, depending on your POV).  I'm going to try to tape it.  It's nice to hear a fan recommendation.
