Title: Filmmaking & Systems of Gov.
Post by: Scott on March 11, 2001, 03:39:13 PM
Speaking strickly of films, what form of goverment would be more advantageous towards the making of great films? Consider each of the following aspects of filmaking, production, writing, acting, distribution, etc. in relationship to different types of goverment.

Really, the ideal form of government for filmmaking is the ideal form of government for everything:  The one that visionaries of the 19th century incorrectly foresaw for our current era, in which resources would be so abundant as to be practically inexhaustible, and leisure time would be the norm; when all would have all they needed to fulfill themselves as human beings.

Sorry.  I always have this big belly-laugh when I think of those utopian projections, and it's a sad belly-laugh.

How about hunter-gatherer society?  I understand that hunter-gatherers only have to spend something like 8 hours a week  working in order to subsist (don't check my numbers, but it is really low anyway).  I could watch a lot of bad movies if I only had to work 8 hours a week.  Of course, you would have to have a capitalist society somewhere willing to produce and provide you with electricity, viewing technology, and a regular stream of bad movies, without expecting anything in return.

Hey!  I've just invented a Utopian society!  Now if I can just figure out how to make it work...
