Title: Super 8
Post by: Scott H on November 28, 2004, 11:42:15 AM
Does anybody here know where to get a decent Super 8 camera for a decent price? Preferably under $100, I've been in the market for only a few days and don't exactly know what I'm looking for, but any advice or links to good websites would be much appreciated. Also while we're at it, if you are experienced with Super 8, what is your favorite thing about Super 8 that makes it unique to others cameras.

Pawn shops.  They usually always have a few that're just sitting around & never sell.  You can usually bid down the price, or get them to throw in a few extras, like a screen or a projector, etc.  My pal at Channel 54 picked up one for $16 recently --
You want one with single-frame capability, so look at the older models.  Single-frame enables you to do stop-motion -- See previous posts -- which is just about the coolest single thing you can do with a Super 8.
For a wonderful brand-new release employing super-cool Super 8 film effects, check out the just-released DVD of Guy Maddin's "The Saddest Music in The World", with Isabella Rosallini.  The extras section shows what fun you can have with Super 8 cameras & vaseline, among other techniques.
