Viewed a lot of films over the busy past week and had a hard time getting to the computer to post, but here are the 9 films:

ESCAPE FROM SOBIBOR (1987) - Rutger Hauer stars in this very well done WWII holocaust film that is much better done than SHINDLERS LIST, JACOB THE LIAR, EUROPA EUROPA, PIANIST, and LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL. Can hardly believe I've never seen or heard of this one before. The film is much more intense and really brings the tragedy to the screen.  It's based on a true story of 600 who attempt a mass escape of the Sobibor death camp in Poland. Only 300 survive that mass escape.

BEYOND JUSTICE (1992)- Another good Rutger Hauer film about an Arab from Morocco who kidnaps his son and takes him to his homeland were his mother follows and searches for him with a crack squad of specialist to get him out. Nice desert scenes and action. Also starring Omar Shariff and Elliott Gould.

Picked this DVD up for $2.00 at ACME grocery store. That's comes out to $1 dollar a movie. Great deal for two great films. Would never have picked this DVD up if it wasn't for this messageboards occasional comments on Rutger Hauer who is an interesting screen presence. First time I've viewed this actor and I am now a fan of Rutger Hauer.
      
SOMETHING WEIRD DVD: NIGHT OF THE BLOODY APES/FEAST OF FLESH

Great DVD starting with the Mexican film NIGHT OF THE BLOODY APES (1969). It's about a doctor who is trying to save his son from an illness. He goes to the zoo and steals an ape of which he removes the heart and transplants it into his sons body. Now this heart must have been taken from a pig or something as it was real and still beating as they held in their hands. Overall a good film that's fun to watch, but I was kinda hoping for hordes of apes going crazy.  Fun film !

FEAST OF FLESH (1970) a.k.a. The Deadly Organ. This b/w film made in Argentina isn't bad. It's directed by the same guy who directed BLOOD OF THE VIRGINS. Some guy wearing a mask and uses a needle to get woman to follow him. It almost made me think of the Micheal Meyers in HALLOWEENwith the creepy mask.

The whole Something Weird DVD is very entertaining with lots of extras like Trailers from about 6 films beside the ones they always show at the beginning of their DVD's. One that I was very happy to see was THE FLESH EATERS trailer. The DVD also had a bunch of shorts with one called THE WHITE GORILLA that was neat.

THE BLACK SIX (1974) - Motorcycle film starring NFL football stars of the time Gene Washington, Carl Eller, Lem Barney, Mercury Morris, Mean Joe Greene, and Willie Lanier. It's a good 70's film about a biker who investigates the death of his brother and his 6 bikers friends who help him fight off another biker gang of about 50. You have to see the finale with 6 guys taking on 50 bikers. Great 70's film ! Bought the DVD for $2.00 at ACME grocery store. It was interesting seeing these 6 successful NFL stars out for justice. Check it out I know you'll all enjoy this one.

THE MESSAGE (1976) - Read some good reviews about this movie before renting it and was hoping for something great based on what I had read. The story may teach some about Islam if they didn't know anything about it, but you can learn alot more by reading for yourself. The film centers mostly on Muhammad leading his people towards Mecca and tearing down the idols in the Kaaba. The odd part about the film is they never show Muhammad throughout the film because those directing and overseeing the movie felt it would offend the greatness of the Prophet. Anthony Quinn stars in this movie, but doesn't't do much in this film. The reviews I read are mostly from Muslims and they really love this film. Though the film had a couple moments that I liked it isn't the epic that the reviewers have made concerning it. Hopefully Muhammad and his message will get a film more deserving of it's historic impact upon the world.

THE IN-LAWS (2003) - Funny comedy starring Michael Douglass and Albert Brooks. One plays a deep undercover CIA agent and the other a foot doctor who has never left his home or office. Wasn't sure at the beginning if it was going to be any good with the poor opening action sequence, but the movie really starts to role right after that. If your looking for a nice little comedy then this is definitely the one as I really enjoyed this film.

ALEXANDER (2004) - Historical film about Alexander the Great Directed by Oliver Stone. This 3 hour film is only for those with a taste for history. It covers alot including his battles, father, mother, friend, and his wife Roxanne. The film does focus alot on his homosexual relationship with his childhood friend who is with him throughout the movie. To bad they didn't focus more on the mixed marriages of Alexander and his soldiers throughout the conquered lands. There is much to be gained by watching this film as reading any of the biographies on his life. Oliver Stone also adds some aspects to the film like he did in JFK for instance who killed Alexanders father and how did Alexander die. All in all I liked the film. The only other film that exist on his life story as far as I know is ALEXANDER THE GREAT (1956) starring Richard Burton which isn't a bad film either, but the whole topic could possibly be done better if they wouldn't stick so closely to the facts. I know you guys didn't like TROY, so you most likely will not like this one at all.
            
THE STORY OF "O" (1975) - French erotic classic based on a novel that was quite the talk in France in the 70's. The film also has an interesting story. Caught this one when I was 17 and was able to find it again 23 years later. As a film it's in  the territory of the other 70's French classic EMANUELLE. We just talked about this exceptionally strange film on a previous post and was able to get a hold of it. Just as bizarre as I remembered it from my younger days.

The In-Laws was a remake. The original made in 1979 starred Peter Falk as the CIA agent and Alan Arkin as the nervous dentist.  Falk drags him to Central America and madness insues.

Will be looking for the original on cable. I've heard that it was a remake. This remake is very funny. The scenes with the gun dealer are hilarious. It also reminds me of MEET THE PARENTS which was also fun.

I admit that seeing the words "Rutger Hauer" and "good film" juxtaposed like that is a nice change of pace

Actually, if you ever watch the Dutch movie SOLDIER OF ORANGE, you will see that Rutger Hauer can be a fine actor when he wants to be.

ESCAPE FROM SOBIBOR (1987) is an excellent film. I think it was made for TV in Europe.

I think he's a good actor but he ends up in a lot of stuff that either doesn't demand much or he doesn't try very hard (I swear on "Precious Find" he was drunk on set and they wrote some dialog around that)
