How does anybody make a miniseries out of something that was only a short story to begin with? Who Goes There is just the right length for a movie, which is one of many reasons Carpenter's thing worked so well. Can't imagine how they're going to pad this thing out, but it's either going to be really slow and dull in spots, or they're going to take serious liberties with the story.

I'd call this one of the best examples of an unnecessary remake. The Thing holds up perfectly 22 years later. The effects still look good, the story is faithfully told, the acting is just right, and there is very little about it that could become dated. It looks as good today as it ever did.

There are a ton of science fiction stories that have been poorly adapted to film. In many cases, it is because the story was too big for the running time. Hell, there are plenty of great stories that have yet to get on film. Why not make one of those into a miniseries?

AHHHHHHHHH this is going to just ruin the movie all together. I think they do dumb things like this because they are running out of ideas for shows. Have there been comercials for it?

I'm holding out hope on it.  If I'm not mistaken, Frank Darabont will be directing it.

I posted about this back September, they also have Ridley Scott producing a 4 hour mini-series of The Andromeda Strain.

I think that it will probably be late 2005 or early 2006 before either one airs. With the quality people that are involved I will be watching both .

Old knews darabont is writing and directing the mini series. which could be  pretty cool. Neither of the 2 movies were really that close to "Who goes there?" Although Carpenters version was a lot closer that Howard hawks version.
Oh and 'the blob', 'the fly' and i'nvasion of the body snatchers' are all slated to be remade as well.

Any one else wonder....what theHasselhoff Sci-Fi channel was doing showing the Tom Cruise MISSION : IMPOSSABLE?
Since when does a spy movie rate this genre limeted channel?
Do any one else think this is just wrong? Was there any Sci-Fi/Fantasy element in this film?

They played the "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" series yesterday.  They play non-genre stuff fairly regularly

I predict that they'll do what they do with all their miniseries; Devote about 1/3 of the running time to the story and the other 2/3 to the non-relevant backstories of the characters. One of them will be a recovering alcoholic, another will be having problems with his wife/ex-wife, etc. There will most definitely be one character who is hiding some deep, dark secret from the others, which will finally be revealed late in the movie, in a heartfelt confession to another character.
