Title: OT: Tsunami Relief
Post by: ulthar on January 06, 2005, 11:45:33 AM
I heard on the radio today that US private contributions through charities already total over ONE BILLION dollars!  Talk radio host Glenn Beck (this is not an issue for partisanship) has compiled a list of charities that are legit; his list gives the percentage of contributions that actually go to relief and the percent that goes to admin costs (these don't always add to 100%).  At the time of this post, there are three listed that give 100% to relief (The Salvation Army is one).

Note there is a detail about the list.  Some charities are listed at below 100%, but really DO give 100% IF YOU DESIGNATE a particular relief effort on your donation.  So, many of these are even 'better' than the list suggests.

His list also includes links to: (1) the charity nav web site for more detailed information, the Better Business Bureau (so you can see if there any complaints) and (3) to the charity's online giving page.

If you have not given yet and would like to, or have and would like to give more, this list is a valuable resource.  Here's the link to the list page:
