Title: 2 Recent Comedy Viewings.
Post by: Scott on January 17, 2005, 12:07:33 AM
DODGEBALL (2004) - Had a good time watching this comedy starring Ben Stiller as the bad guy gym owner. The owner of Average Joe's gym had lines that could have easily been played by Bill Murray. Some of those lines were perfect for him. The film isn't the best comedy, but still entertaining. What happened to the team coach of Average Joe's gym. He kinda dissappears?

NAPOLEON DYNAMITE (2004) - This film has been getting rave reviews and it is funny. A different comedy. It's about a high school student who seems to need some serious people skills. The dialogue and images of these characters is to funny. Yes it's stupid, but it works.

I have seen some good reviews for DODGEBALL. Thanks for the reminder to watch this one. Of course according to the movie FEAR NO EVIL, dodgeballs can be hazardous to your health ( :

I saw FEAR NO EVIL and don't recall the dodgeball reference. What was it?

There was a scene where the coach is throwing a dodgeball at the students in the gym as part of some activity while the antichrist kid is doing push-ups and getting angry at one of the students. When the dodgeball hits the student, it pins him up against the wall and crushes him. And yet nobody in the scene seemed to notice that was unusual.

I remember the special effects in FEAR NO EVIL weren't that good, but that scene probably went by me also : ) as the film as a whole didn't work for me.

I use FEAR NO EVIL as my litmus test for movie review guides. If the reviewer gives it anything other than a turkey, I generally don't pay much attention to the rest of their guide (I think we all have movies like that). I gave this movie a seriously bad review on Amazon.com. Another reviewer came along after me and gave it a five star review saying they didn't understand why people were giving it bad reviews (gee, perhaps that's because it is a truly horrible movie?).

Dodgeball is a fantastic movie, and I enjoyed it thouroughly.  Doesn't the coach get crushed quite randomly at the casino by a lucky sign of some kind?

Anywho, it was one of my top comedies of 2004, with Anchorman probably at the top.

I'm waiting quite impatiently for Napoleon Dynamite to come out to rent here, since I missed it when it ran at cinemas, but I've heard nothing but good things from all who have seen it.

Dodgeball is one of my favorites- I watch it all the time.  On the DVD there's a featurette featuring Justin Long (he was the brainy kid in Galaxy Quest).  This featurette is HYSTERICAL and MUST be watched by all.

I just saw Napleon Dynamite a few days ago and I LOVED it.  I was busting up throughout the entire movie.

For Napoleon Dynamite fans:  go to www.cottonfactory.com and you can get a "Vote for Pedro" t-shirt (along with other great shirts).

**SPOILER FOR DODGEBALL**

The Irish coach (played beautifully by Rip Torn) gets crushed by a falling "Luck of the Irish" neon sign... "crushed by 2 tons of irony" according to Vince Vaughn's character.

Napoleon Dynamite is one of my favorite films, the best thing about the movie and is the quotablity of it all, like one person can totally hate the movie but if you start quoting it they join in. Classic Quotes..."your mom goes to college"

Yea, the film has a real effect on the personality as well. I spent 2 days feeling and acting uncontrolably like Napoleon Dynamite. I'm only now starting to shake off the effects. Viewers beware.

Saint,

Heh.  "Your Mom Goes To College."  Classic.

I find myself constantly quoting Napoleon's grandmother's mispronunciation of "Quesadillllia"  :)

One of the funniest films I have seen in years.  Loved every second of Napoleon.

My husband is of hispanic descent... after we watched it we made his hair look like Pedro's wig.  IT ROCKED!   Problem was we still have an old fashioned camera & didn't have film.
