Title: It's a boy!
Post by: Andrew on January 22, 2005, 01:49:31 PM
Just got the word 3 minutes ago that Katie delivered Andrew L. Borntreger (named after my father) at 11:59 AM, EST.  9 lbs and 9 oz!  Katie and the new little one are doing fine.

Now, if they will just send me an email with a number to the hospital!

I think congrats are in for Katie. 9 lbs, 9oz; he's a strapping young man already.

Just finished talking to Katie.  I was tired of waiting, so I looked up a general number to the maternity ward at the hospital and went from there.  It was a little difficult, because the nurses kept hanging up on me (the time lag is about two to three seconds).

He is a big boy, with the same blue eyes as my daughter had at birth (Jenna's have changed to a steel blue color).  That comes from Katie's father.  He also has a really strong voice when he wants to use it.  They had just taken blood to check his type and that made him give a cry.  I heard him loud and clear.

Also, according to my wife, he was born hungry.

Now, Dunners, I did not quite sneak him in on you.  I have not mentioned it often, but I know I have mentioned it.  Hard not to, because I have been both worried and excited about the new baby.  The other Marines know this well; I just finished terrorizing some of the other SNCO's in my barracks, because I am hyper and wound up.

Many congrats on the new little one and glad to hear everyone is doing well.

9lbs 9oz isn't big,  there was a news story this week about a lady in Brazil that had a baby that weighed over 17lbs.  That did make it clear that it was delivered by C-section.

Anyway, we're all smoking our virtual cigars with you.

Title: Pictures
Post by: Andrew on January 23, 2005, 05:57:48 AM
And, I was able to get some pictures.  Man, he is a big boy.  Also, he already knows Katie's voice and will look for her if she is talking.  Other people, well, he apparently could care less.

Just delivered and making sure everyone knows he is not happy (http://www.badmovies.org/request/baby1.jpg)

With Katie's mom, checking her out (http://www.badmovies.org/request/baby2.jpg)

With my mother (http://www.badmovies.org/request/baby3.jpg)

None of him and Katie for now, because I know she'd yell at me and say she looked horrible.  I did get some of her feeding him.  The doctor had Katie give him formula, because he was so big and they were worried about his blood sugar.  He came out hungry and drank 3 oz!  Ah, he inherited daddy's tapeworm...

I had been on the phone with Katie (I call her once a week) a few hours before she went to the hospital.  Jenna, who will be two in April, had suddenly wanted the phone and actually said, "Hi dadda!" to me.  She then lost interest.  However, about 10 minutes later, she charged up to my wife, wanting the phone.  ("Dadda, dadda, dadda!")  She took it and said a lot, but I couldn't understand a word.  Jenna then handed the phone back to Katie and went back to playing.  Whatever she had to tell me, it was important.

Katie sent me a picture of Jenna making music (http://www.badmovies.org/request/jenna_lids.jpg) (I think they were doing the dishes or something.)

Seems he has all fingers and toes in place.

No horrid tentacle monster there.

What a dissappointment... :-P

Congratulations!

Congrats from me, too.

Actually, the odds were that it was going to be a boy. When one has a child, the odds are 50-50 that it will be a boy or a girl. But, on the second child, the odds that the second child will be a different sex from the first child go up to 75-25. Now, that you have one of each, if you decide to have a thrird child, the odds are back to 50-50, as to whether it will be a boy or a girl.

Good show, brother.  He's 4 days younger than my son, Phoenix, who gave up the apartment on the 19th.  Andrew outweighs him by 6 ounces, though.

Now I really am thinking about getting home and seeing the newest one, along with my wife and daughter.

Congrats to Brother Ragnarok too!  I had no idea you were expecting, I probably missed it since I do not get to check the site all the time.

Wow, I'm away from the board for a couple of days, and look what I miss.

That is great news, Andrew. Good, healthy birthweight too. Hope you'll soon be able to meet him in person.

I am surprised though. For someone who has read Orson Scott Card, I would have thought you'd save the name Andrew for your third  :)

Actually, that would be Ender.  I think that Andrew was the oldest of the three, so I have  my daughter and son mixed up in order compared to the Wiggins.  Actually, it looks like we are probably going to stop at two - though we have discussed three children.  I know that right now is probably not the time to ask Katie about a third.

Just dropped in and saw the news.  Congratulations, my friend.  What a great looking boy.  It's fun to see a pic of how big Jenna is getting as well.   It doesn't seem like that long ago that we were offering congrats on her birth.  Happy news indeed!

First, let me say those are great pictures. I also thought that was a cute story of your daughter on the phone. Your story reminded me of when my daughter started talking and I know it must be tough for you to be over there at this time. Is there any projected date of when you will be able to return? I know someone that's over there since last February and he is supposed to be coming back in April although at this point, they may extend his time as they see fit. I sincerely hope something like this doesn't happen to you and I wish you the best of luck in returning to your family as soon as possible. It's all about the kids, Andrew.

Next, I must say congrats to Brother R. Keeping secrets from us or did I just miss something about it?

Title: Re: It's a boy!
Post by: AndyC on January 25, 2005, 11:01:45 AM
Actually, Peter was the oldest. Ender was a mispronunciation of Andrew by Valentine when she was little. I'm just glad you didn't respond with "what the heck are you talking about?" The joke was based on a vague recollection that you might have referred to a "little doctor" in one of your reviews.

Anyway, best of luck.

Post by: Andrew on January 25, 2005, 12:38:17 PM
Dang, you are correct Andy.  Soon as you said the older brother's name was Peter, it got me.  You know, it is about time I read that book again; it has been at least six years.  None of the follow-ups though, I disliked them.

That review was "Battle Beyond the Stars."  Ah, good flick.  The Marines out here really liked that one.  Not as much as "Flash Gordon," but it definitely drew a crowd.

I am definitely worn down from ops out here and just about out of miracles that I can pull out of my hat.  Running the Marines hard, because I have too few (lost some to detachments, etc) and am out of gear to take care of new requirements.

I am looking forward to some time with the family.  It looks like I should get back home in April.

Man....what else can i add?
Glad the Son of Borntreger is doing well.
And yes, we all want you home. For the wife and kids sake, and ours....we want more reviews, ya Jarhead!

And of corse, as always....semper fi, carry on.

See, I knew  I was missing something interesting  from the board, because my mail hasn't gotten much replies from here during the last days. Needless to say, congratulations Andrew.

Title: Re: It's a boy!
Post by: Andrew on January 27, 2005, 01:20:45 PM
Thanks again all!  Man, "Son of Borntreger" has an interesting ring to it.  I do not know if that should go the Godzilla route (and he does not look like Gary Coleman) or the "Son of Blob" route (in which case the cat had better look out).

Ken, if you think I am an insane ball of energy, you should try being around my daughter.  Just imagine a 4 year-old daughter, a 2 year-old son, and myself.  I'm pretty sure that your clothes would burst into flame, causing you to run across the room screaming.

Then again, you might just sit there and smolder, laughing in that way you do.

Hope to see you for B-Fest in 2006.

I can't wait for such an opportunity at immolation.  (Actually, it's Katie I worry about.  That poor woman!)

You were thought and spoken of much at this weekend's B-Fest, chief, and indeed, we all hope to see you there next year.  Only one of this year's films (as I recall) featured a midget, but the sight brought a tear to both my and Jeff's eye as we thought of you.

Hopefully the elections will be the precursor to some stability over there, and you and your comrades will be brought back home soon.

I think "Son of Borntreger" has a heroic, kick ass ring to it, don't you?

Actually, I should be home around April.  Now, the next few months will tell whether I am right back over here come spring 2006.  I am betting that I will be and planning on it too.

Believe me, I am in the middle of midget withdrawal.  Actually watched "Freaks" the other night, though it is a truly creepy movie.  However, plenty of midget in that one.

Katie will get along fine.  At least asylums are covered by the military health plan.

Dammit!  Once is not enough.  We need to hang out some more.  The fifteen minutes at 'Fest 2002 just didn't cut it!

Well, I am hoping to get to B-Fest 2006.  If so, I'll be happy to hang out.  It is too bad that NOWFF is not going still (to my knowledge).  That finished up at midnight, which is just the right time to go out and drink some JD and listen to live bands.

Also, you were pretty busy at 2002 - getting around to see everyone and all.  It seems like the first B-Fest is all about getting to say hi to everyone in person.  I remember that being my focus at B-Fest 2000.
