Title: Zombies! aka: The Importance of One-Shot Stopping.
Post by: Flangepart on November 23, 2001, 01:20:54 PM
Did it ever occour to you, that the reason the Zombies in the Romero movies took over the world, is because people could not get there minds behind the need to improve their marksmenship?                                                                                          As the U.S. military alone has Billions of rounds of small arms ammo , how else could you explain it? Do the math. A population of 260 million, and at least maby, 60 million rounds of 5.56mm alone! One head shot, plop!, and you do the next flesh eater the same way. Is this dificult? One Hummer filled with Nato 7.62mm could do half the zombies in Ohio alone, properly delivered....Andrew, do you have your Marksmen badge yet, BTW?.....anyway, concitering the need to hit what you aim at.........I'm realy glad to see that the JSDF is hitting Godzilla with almost 100% accuracy, these days. Used to be, they were luckey to get 10% hits....on a targert the size of an office building! Come on! I've been able to climb on an M-1 Abrams. Its ain;t that big! Heavy, yes, but not so bulky as , say, a semi. The Hindenberg weighed 200 tons, same as an early 747, but which took up more space? See my point? At 1.000 yards, a tank is a small target, and look at U. S. busting in the Gulf war. Anyway, what examples of movie marksmanship comes to your minds, as memorable? Take a shot at it......sorry....and please, don't rag on the Imperial Stormtroopers too much. They are sensitive souls......

Expert with the rifle, sharpshooter with the pistol at present.

I know, I know... ...I do pistol shooting all the time and am usually a much better with the pistol than the rifle, but my family has "the shakes" in its genetics.  Last qualification day for the 9mm it was especially bad.  I'll fix that next time I get to qual.

Well, don't feel bad, my friend. At least you can see the sights clearly! I have to split the differance on the double images my old eyes make out. Still, i can keep my 357. on the paper at 50ft.  Thinkin' about good shootouts.....Two words: John Woo. What was the one with the hospitle shootout? Do ya' think the guy in the vault used a single shot t/c aginst the heros....because he wanted a challange? Also, cleaning out the town in Kelly's Heros looked pretty realistic to me. Gotta love the Tank stalking, too!

you know....you're right...a mean it isn't as if the Romeo Zombies were HARD CORE MOVING TARGETS...it's not trying to shoot a dog-race track bunny is it?  And the in a Shopping mall!! If I was the driver I would've forgot  about shooting and start running over people!! I think you could porbably do alot more zombie damage with that Escort-type car than the gusy shooting!!

Danny:
While on the subject of John Woo Films......and speaking of Hard Targets....How did that guy from Lance Henriksen with a gun that size! Not hit Van Damn  you ask me he should've had one more bullet in that huge barrlel of his...Although it was facing van damme...

Chris:
Speaking of aiming....Thinking to the golden Legacy of Arnie Action films...Think to COMMANDO...the end fight..Arnie versus all of those military extra's you call that an army!!?? They throw everyhting at him grenades shells the lot!! He just rools form the explosion dodges the bulltes.....I think exttras need more gun training...cos Arnie throw 1 grenade and it kills about 5 blokes in a single shot..talk about good luck....but then it was Arnie
and he's been givn a raw deal before... :-)

Danny:
Heheh that was funny and I have no idea why!!

Chris:
Idiot.

Hospital shoot out - Hard Boiled.  Great film.  This was the first Woo film I saw, and it completely changed my view of action films.  The Hospital scene was pretty intense (even patients and doctors got blown away).  I love the line \"Give a cop a gun and he\'s a hero, give him two and he\'s God!\"

BODY ARMOR

For God's Sake what is up with these people. A dozen enemy soldires can't shoot a few good guys. The bullets seem to be all over the place. What the Hell? They are standing right there hit them! But the bad guys are running around all over the place but get shot a gazillion times. Dammit hire better soldiers!

"Hero fodder"! What i call bad guys and assorted henchmen who can't figure out what the erect metal thingies on the rifle barrel are. Sheesh! THIER CALLED SIGHTS, YOU IDIOTS!  AIM! Sure the movie might be shorter....but at least you won't look like a compleat doofus!  Argghhhh! Ya' see....its cheesy film makeing. Ever see a film where you were on pins and needles, waiting for the next gunshot....because you knew the bad guy was a good shot, and both sides in the hunt, had to take cover, and act like it? Full Metal Jacket, maby? Its harder to write such a scene, takes more skill......so, what do we get? Near sighted gunsels with the stedy hand of Barney Fife.  "Hero Fodder", Mr Begg. Add it to the list, if it ain't there already!

Well usually they had the right idea, but since when are Romero characters intelligent? I heard somewhere that there was a second ending written for Dawn Of The Dead, in which the female lead gets her head cut off by the helicopter rotor blades.

Damn I wish that ho had gotten it...all doe eyed and such

She looked like a f**king squirrel!

How about "Shanghai Noon", where the badguy was a marksman and the good guy couldn't shoot at all

ENEMY AT THE GATES had numerous quality scenes involving snipers shooting at each other.  Then they went and blew all their credibility with the final showdown scene.  Suffice to say that it shows snipers doing something they would never, ever do.

Still a good movie.
