Title: Scariest thing you have EVER seen/heard
Post by: Jack Corbett on February 12, 2005, 06:38:51 PM
This doesn't have to be a movie. It can also be real.
Here are mine:

PITCH BLACK:
To date the only movie that made me leave of sheer fright.
C'mon! I was eleven years old! Whaddya expect?!

The scariest... wait, no... FREAKIEST thing I have heard is the little girl's footsteps running back and forth in my parents room. It is one of the ghosts that lives in our group of houses. (In our street)

Sorry for this question, Jack, but... ehm

...how old are you?

Turning fifteen in May this year.

But I DID say that I was eleven (11) when I saw the movie. Now I own it on VHS and watch it to get to sleep. Just like The Evil Dead...

I am being serious, there is a ghost (or two) in our house.

15 years and it is normal for you to watch Evil Dead before going to sleep???

When I was 14/15 I saw "Re-Animator" and "Return of..." the first time and I was really scared. And I think that Evil Dead is "harder" than these films...

Maybe you should start again with docu-films about animals or the TomSayer&HuckleberryFinn-Series, instead of watching horror-films.  :)

Uh, wait, I shouldn't have said Evil Dead...

I watch any film in the Evil Dead Trilogy to get to sleep.
Although I haven't been able to lately because school is back on and all, and one of my friends borrowed the first one on Friday.

Of course, I did laugh my head off at the lawnmower sequence in Braindead/Dead Alive, thinking it was one of the best thing I had ever seen.

I was fooling around on the web and found a site about the death of a woman who was held hostage and starved to death at a "church retreat." She apparently was leaving the "church" after a dispute, so the "church" leaders had her kidnapped and taken to this "retreat." To be talked out of leaving. She supposedly died and her captures just left in the emergency room waiting room without explanation.

The website had photos of her in the morgue after being found. Her legs were covered in urine and diareah (sp), her skin was not only dry and cracked, but had bug bites on them. The worse part was her eyes were still open. This girls dead face is just staring at you.

This was even to much for me. I used to not have a problem with horror films, now I'm bothered by any kind of make up or anything that comes close to what I saw in those pictures.

What about Ghosts? Anyone had an encounter with them?

Ozzymandias, I feel sorry for you. I would be in the exact same position if I saw something like that.

That would be Lisa McPherson, killed by the *CULT* of scientology. This is the fake religion that L. Ron Hubbard started in an attempt to get rich, and which half the stars in Hollywood have been brainwashed into joining. Its members include Tom Cruise Control, John Revolta, and many others.

You can read the tragic story of Lisa McPherson at her memorial site;

Lisa McPherson Memorial (http://www.lisamcpherson.org)

If you go to the autopsy photos page, there's a link to the photos that Ozzymandias mentioned.

If you want to find out more about scientology and why it's a dangerous cult, check out the following links;

Inside Scientology/Dianetics (http://www.clambake.org/archive/books/isd/isd.htm)
scientologists think you're a "WOG" (http://warrior.xenu.ca/1997-1117a.html)

The first is an entire book describing the author's experiences with the cult. Very interesting reading, especially the parts where he describes using the "e-meter" to locate the invisible "body thetans" clinging to him so that he can become a "clear".

Scariest thing for me these days deals with school, I freaked out when I thought I wasn't able to add into one class...that's how mundane my life is....man I hate school.

For movies, the scariest thing I've honestly seen is the naked fat lady in About Schmidt, her name slips my mind at the moment, but as I was watching  it in the theaters I was like "oh god, don't show it!!!"

Years ago, when I lived with my parents in the country(rural Kentucky), two black stray dogs came to our house...we had pet cats, so to keep the dogs from chasing them I locked them in a chicken house by the woods(we intended to give the dogs to a family friend)...that night was hot & those dogs were constantly barking.. I could'nt sleep so I went outside to sit on the back porch where it was a little cooler..I wasnt out there about ten minutes when the sounds of the dogs barking changed into what sounded like the VERY loud sound of women laughing...it was just echoing through the woods & hollows...scared the living hell out of me. It really happened, I can hardly believe it myself & I don't expect anybody else to believe it, but it sure enough happened

Dutchman, are you saying you think the dogs turned into women? I know there's a joke here somewhere but...
What did the dogs look like in the morning? Where they still there?

Hmmmm.

Seen:  for films, the scene in "The House On Haunted Hill" where the lone female wanders into a closet and comes face to face with the blind housekeeper.  Brrrr!
"28 Days Later" sparked at least 3 nightmares, in unpleasant detail, of the breakdown that follows the initial scene in the film.
An episode of the new "Outer Limits" about a thing that lives under the bed and can imitate other people.  That sparked another nightmare.

Sound:  when alone in the house and I hear the door open and someone come in, only to find that I'm still (hopefully!) quite alone.  Doesn't often happen, but it isn't pleasant when it does.

We had trouble one summer at our house with foxes coming out of the woods and fighting cats and dogs in the area. Foxes make a noise that sound like a terrified woman or a baby. They also seem to get louder and louder. They will wake you from a sound sleep.

odinn7...I don't know what happened, I recalled a story my Mamaw told me of a terrified hunter who came knocking on their door when she was a kid(my family has always lived around these parts)..the hunter claimed he shot a possum and it turned into a woman...she said her Papa assured her that he was either crazy or drunk...when I heard those laughs that story was my first thought. I ran in the house and woke up my parents, Dad told me animals just sound like that sometimes, but I was pretty shook up. I know what I heard, and it was dog barks that turned into laughing. I finally went to sleep that night, when I woke the next morning Mom told me that Dad let the dogs go and they ran off. My brother still lives near those woods, and he says that he's heard what sounds like women laughing but he thinks its just animals...Another freaky thing happened when I was dating the girl I'm married to now..I was taking her home from our house pretty late and I was going a little too fast down the hill(its a long gravel road through the woods) and the car lost traction and went into a ditch. The car was hung up, so we were gonna walk back to the house but we could here chanting coming from the woods..she was terrified(I was too, but I tried to act brave) so we got back in the car and I just floored it. I overheated the car but it finally tore out of the ditch & we got the hell out of there. There's alot of rumors about devil worship around there, and after that I believe them.

I remember when I younger I was with my 2 cousins in the woods. We weren't doing anything just like to hike when I heard my name being called. "Richard" "Richard". I looked at my cousins who looked shocked. I said to them "come on guys you didn't tell me we were meeting anybody". We were like 2 miles from anywere, noone knew we were there and It was all flat terrain so you could see a good distance. One of my cousins finally spoke up and said theres noone out here but us and who would know your name. I heard my name being called a couple of more times when we were heading back. It was a nice calming womans voice.

My cousins still deny that it was a set up to scary me and that event happened 7 years ago. By the look on there faces when my name was being called there either really good actors or were scared.

I will say that the Grudge and Ju On, despite being awful movies, both scared the living hell out of me. As did the Blob and Michael Dukakis when I was about 8 (I was convinced that they both lived in the sewers)..

I am petrified of spiders, even small ones freak me out, I hate them. So I have seen these things called camelback spiders that are mainly found in Australia and Iraq. I hear marines are killing these spiders (average the size of about a wall clock) with their guns as they are so big.

Also to see something be careful, this is DISTURBING (though fake). But, I sure you all can take it:
www.tubgirl.com

I also must say I do not believe in ghosts so even when freaky things happen, Im not too scared. When I was about 13, I was walking down the street, and each streetlamp turned off as soon as I had wlaked past, one at a time. Probably the scariest moment I have ever had besides once totalling a car.

Not really scary but disturbing- Willem DaFoe in Boondock Saints when he's in drag. He does not make a pretty woman. I usually find him to be rather creepy anyways.

Last year when I was doing research on vampire myths represented in movies, [which involved me watching pretty much every vampire movie at my video store]  I had many a wierd creepy dream about vampires, which the more I think about it, the stupider it seems, but my sleeping patterns were pretty shocking around then, and although it makes sense that when you are writing an essay and spending most of you time surrounded by it, you'll dream about it, but it was kinda creepy nonetheless to my sleep deprived mind.

When I was younger I used to be paranoid that I had Gremlins in my cupboards, so I made sure the doors were all closed before I went to sleep.  To this day I still prefer sleeping with them closed, although Laziness is still getting the better of me.

So far I haven't really had any ghost stories personally, other than the usual creepy noises a house makes.   Although my friend's new place apparently has wierd things happening in the garage, and my boss told me a story about the ghost of her step-brother and his repulsion at her naked body [don't ask, it scarred me badly hearing that story...]

Scary moments in movies are getting fewer for me now, but when I saw Saw,  I thought it was pretty damn creepy all through the film, and the end of The Ring had me grabbing the arms of my seat.

One of the creepiest movies I have seen is a Japanese film called 'Hypnosis' I think, where people who have been hypnotised to kill themselves when they hear a certain noise.  It ended on some really crazy demon type note which although effects wise wasn't great, was effective nonetheless.

Scariest thing that's ever happened to me was when my friend Timmay (yes, he was nicknamed after a retarded cripple on South Park) died, as I had just spent an entire day hanging out with him the week prior. Ever since, I've just been waiting for more people to die (and 3 more have that I've been close to: my friend Jeff, my grandfather, and my friend Tina). So now whenever I don't talk to somebody for an extended period of time (usually over a week), I start freaking out and call them out of the blue.

As for movies...nothing has really scared me outside of Chucky, and I was only 6 or 7 when that did scare me. But when The Ring came out on DVD, I found the Easter Egg to watch the video itself, and I watched it. After you watch it, the sound of an old phone ringing is heard on the DVD, so I laughed at it...but then MY phone rang. Didn't answer it, needless to say.

Another freaky thing was when I was driving home from my girlfriend's house one night, so I decided to avoid the major highway and took Rte 85 in MA (since we both live here, but she lives about 30 miles north of me). I stopped at a red light, and saw a car sitting in the train station parking lot, it's lights on and the driver inside it. The red light was unusually long, and then I passed by the train station, and the car pulled out of the parking lot, nearly forcing the car that was behind me off the road in doing so, and then quickly came up on my ass, flashing its brights. I went through about 2 towns (Hopkinton and Milford) with him on my ass and flashing his brights, so I just pulled over into the parking lot of a pub, and watched him as he drove by. The old lady gave me the dirtiest look as she slowed down, and I swear she turned around in the next driveway or parking lot, because when I got back onto the road I saw her driving the other way.

Well, that spark dream I had was probably the most horrible experience I recall, but that was the kind of horror that comes from grief mixed with a feeling of utter helplessness. Where scares are concerned, I think the worst scare I had was another dream that seemed so real.

The dream went something like this: I was out wandering through a part of the neighborhood I knew fairly well late at night, and had just come to a place next to a factory that had this big lawn out in front that was well-lit. I dreamed two guys were there holding guns on a woman and that I realized this only when I was up close and they'd spotted me as well.

One of the guys taunted me and asked whether I was going to be the big hero and face down a gun. As his partner covered us both with his guns and made me keep my hands up, this nasty crook put his pistol in my belt and dared me to take my chances and try to draw faster than he could. I dreamed that he gave me no choice but to play his game, so I went for the gun.

Lo and behold, I did manage to draw first, but then when I pulled the trigger, all I got was a clicking noise; the gun was empty! Then I panicked, turned tail, and ran. The crooks both leveled tommy guns and started blazing away at me. My heart was racing and I was completely terrified. I was thinking how any moment one of the bullets they were firing was going to catch me square in the back, and wondering why one hadn't already hit me.

I woke up panting and covered in sweat.

One time I was at my friend's place playing Halo and I glanced to a small window next to the TV. Guess who I saw?

I saw someone that looked just like Jesus walk past the window.
That scared the hell out of me.

Here's one for you Jack Corbett.  When I was a kid I lived in a (NJ) suburb west of Manhattan.  This was the 1980s when the specter of nuclear war was still very much alive.  One autumn evening I walked to my front door (which faced east toward the city) and I could have sworn for just an instant I saw a huge orange mushroom cloud through the trees!

Turns out it was just the moon low in the sky.  When the moon is low in the sky, the atmosphere filters out all the colors in the sunlight it reflects except red ones which have a longer wavelength and can get through.  This makes the moon look red and distorts its size to make it look much bigger.

I thought we were all goners for a minute.

Yeah, I could see the terror in that, although I suppose if you really had been seeing a mushroom cloud, it would have had to have been far enough away that the flash and the shockwave couldn't reach you, so it was somebody else who would have been the goners. (Of course, this being the Cold War turned hot, there would have been plenty of reason to freak out anyway, since the next nuke to hit probably would be aimed at your town.)

I've always rather wondered how we'd react if one of our cities went up in a mushroom cloud. I'm thinking the reaction would be like what we saw on 09/11/01 times a thousand or so. (A small nuke could easily claim three million lives in the blast alone.) Since we're not at war with the Soviets anymore, any nuclear explosion we might get is likely to be from a single stolen nuke a band of terrorists might smuggle in across the Mexican or Canadian border.

Anyway, if you ever get to see a mushroom cloud with your own eyes these days, that'll be more on the order of the "grief and helplessness" kind of horror.

I once saw in a documentary the body of a sailor who had fallen to the sea during an arctic or anctartic expedition. Somehow, the bosy had been recovered after many years and was preserved in ice. It looked extremely well preserved, a thin man in light clothes (he was even barefoot). The only things that would tell you he was dead were the yellowish colour of his skin, except the zone of the nose and forehead, which was purple. That was very, very creepy.

In movies, I hate with all my heart cocroaches and similar insects, so watching "Mimic" in a big screen was definitely not a good idea. When i was walking back home, around 12:30 AM, I once heard a noise behind me and instinctively turned back. It was nothing, but it scared the hell out of me.

I used to have nightmares regarding horror movie situations when I was younger (turning 28 in April), but these days I found films like "American Beauty" to be more scary.

Did anyone actually see the effects of September 11?  I did.  I work in Washington DC and live in Virginia.  Most of the city let out of work in the morning because people were pretty freaked out.  I had to stay at work the full day, so I drove home at like 4:30 - hours after most people were sent home, and since the whole country was inside watching CNN or FOX, there were NO cars on the road.  Anyone who's ever lived in DC, city of eternal traffic, might appreciate how creepy being the only car on the road in broad daylight is.  As I drove across the 14th St. Bridge, totally alone, a massive, black smoke plume from the Pentagon filled the sky in front of me.  As I pulled onto the GW parkway, I could see the Pentagon (opposite side from where it was hit) and it was just surrounded by flashing lights.  Fighter planes and helicopters were swarming around like flies.  No planes were going in or out of Reagan Airport (which you can see from the bridge) which normally sends off a plane every 40 seconds or so.  It was surreal.

A few days after that, I was driving in Arlington and turned down the road that passes right by where the Pentagon was hit.  I had forgotten it was so close to the road and I could see up close the spot where it was hit.  It looked like the building had been made of wax and melted away.  Within a year, you could drive by the same spot and not even be able to tell where the old wall ended and the new wall began.  I think this country got back on its feet fast.

I believe the scariest mvoie that I've seen, to date, is School's Out! It's a German movie... dubbed in English.... based on an urban legend about a guy that runs around a school killing students with scissors, while dressed as a Harlequin. I was still creeped out 3 days afterwards. Clenched fists and jumping at shadows. Damn good movie!!!

you guys will NOT believe this, but...
One year ago we heard about A woman and a baby dissepeared somewhere in Limburg(holland). A few days later we were at facation there, so we went walking through the woods, and when we were walking fot like 2 hours, we were sitting down, and the first thing I see is some kind of track going from were we walked deep into the woods. not a track of footsteps, but a track of some kind of sack. next to the track of the sack were footsteps of 1 person. we followed it .... there was some kind of open spot there, and it smelled badly. there were 2 sticks in the ground , and we were checking what it was. then, when i looked at it, you can see that someone digged there, and after digging , throwed dirt on it. There were holes at alot of places, and every place smelled as hell. there were flies hanging around there too. so, we stared digging with sticks, and everytime it started stinking more worse. Then , we left without digging further, becouse it started to rail badly. when we were in the bungalow, we talked about it, and late at night, we were going asleep.

now THIS is really scary...
That night , i went out of my bed to get a glass of water, and my little brother (5 years old),sleeping in another room, was screeming , and I rund to him, and there was that shining blue and white colour is just saw, and then it was gone. he was really crying , and i asked him what was going on. He told me , that he saw a Stummick that walked on the ground...this was VERY uncomfertable, but thats not the scariest thing that happened that night. Everybody went back asleep, and my mon and dad slept over by my little brother.  I was all alone in a pretty big, scary , bedroom. and with what my brother told , that  didn't do any good to me to go asleep. so, an hour later, everybody was asleep, exept me... damn, i had to go to the toilet...aww..and i knew something wasn't right here. I had to keep the light off , and i went outa my bed..very silent, I went to the bathroom. When i was there, the most scary thing ever happened to me. I heard very silend the word ''no'' and then, in my head, i saw my mother pointing at some place in the dark bathroom. i went there, and then it happened. I walked pretty fast to the toilet, and when i past the mirror , in my right eye, i saw somebody standing very strange standing to the wall at my left, LOOKING AT ME!!  I fell on the ground, couze i was SO afraid,my legs just didnt move , and i really SAW somebody , looking at me...only the thought at that happening makesme scare the hell out of me. I run to my parents, and I told them what happend...they believed it i guess, and that night i slept with them. I had some nightmares, but the next day we went home.
since then, when allways   have to go to the  toilet at night, i turn the lights on, and who's against it.....i don't care

Back in 95 i was dating this woman with 2 kids.  well  1night i was sleeping and had a dream that i walked through the kitchen and noticed a guy out of the window, He had (if you could believe it..) a bazooka. dressed exactly like CIA, dark glasses and suit. suddenly he turned and pointed the bazooka at the window i was looking through. In a panick i grabbed the 2 kids and shoved  Debbie in the bedroom and  into the closet put the 2 kids in with her and told them not to come out till i get them. i start closing the door and just as it closes and i look up and there was a guy with dark glasses and a suit staring at me through my bedroom window..IT scared the hell out of me so bad i jumped out of bed grabbing anything i could use as a weapon. It was only after she started talking to me that i finally come around as to where and what i was doing.. being 10 yrs now i still think of it regularly and i can still feel the panick and frustration i felt when i looked up and seen that man staring at me knowing i could no longer keep them hidden from them.....I have been surrounded by 20-30 men intent on hurting me something fierce because 1 guy ran his mouth and didnt have the balls to step up and admitt to it. so he got all his friends... to say the least i never backed down and told them if he wanted to hurt me so bad he should step forward.. he never did and i got out of there with my skin luckily. i have also traveled the country racing dirtbikes and have jumped over 80 feet.  The point is, THAT IS THE ONLY THING, that has scared me that much.. wierd huh? And being it was the Govt it could as well happen to any of us any day...........

ok so this one time i was with my 2 best friends and we were having a sleep over at my house, and we heard a knock at the front door and i sent my friend to go see who it was and when she came back she said that nothing was there, so we went back to what we were doing, like 2 hours later my friend who had answered the door woke me up saying she couldn't find our other friend, well i have a really big house so we thought maybe she was just hiding so we got up to look for her, knowing that she was just going to jump out and scare us if we found her, well almost 10 minutes of looking later we found her sitting in the guest room closet all freaked out, we thought she was kidding but when we tried to get her out of the closet she freaked out and said somthing about the lake, i have a lake behind my house and we always joked about like bodies and monsters and stuff, i was thinking maybe she just took that a little bit too seriously.  well about 5 months after that we were surfing the web and we looked up our neighborhood, and we found out that someone had been killed right near here and were rumored to have put the body in the lake, to this day we have no idea how my friend knew about that, but now we never accuse her of joking around, that was one of the scariest things i have ever been through, and even thinking about it gives me the chills.

Thank you so much for that intelligent, well thought out post to this topic.
Without people like you, the rest of us may not realize how intelligent we really are as we would have nothing to compare ourselves to. What I can't seem to understand is why people like you take the time to come here and post crap like that. It amazes me and I have to wonder what goes through your tiny mind when doing it?
