Title: aqsis movie project
Post by: ulthar on February 21, 2005, 10:24:35 AM
Okay, so I know many of you on this board are not a big fan of cgi fx in otherwise live action pictures, but I thought I'd share this.

There is an "Open Source" style cgi movie project called the Aqsis Movie Project (being based on the renderman compliant open source renderer aqsis).  In this case, the "open source" refers to two things: first, the entire project is to be constructed using open source computer tools; second, it's a collaborative project, being 'open' to those who wish to contribute.

The movie is titled "Omniscient." The basic plot is centered on a monk in a monestary that uses technological implants to enhance 'visions.'  All of the main character's visions except one goes black, so he leaves on a journey to (a) find out why and (b) to discover the significance of that one vision.

You can view script, rough storyboarding, current crew and the list of software tools being used at

I've got my system set up with the ayam modeler and the aqsis renderer, and I'm hoping to MAYBE participate in this project on the technical development side (I am no artist, believe me).  I'd like to get into dynamical modeling and shader development.
