Title: Candy
Post by: Andrew on July 10, 2005, 12:15:31 PM
Sorry that I have been scarce lately.   I have been spending a lot of time at the unit lately, sometimes 14 hours.  Along with that, my children take precedence on my time.  It is keeping me busy.  I only have to survive this for a few more years, right?

Speaking about something that I had to survive, here is the review for "Candy."

Andrew, don't be apologizing that you have a life to live. Everyone here understands that.

Again, a really great, funny review -- you do know how to write 'em! -- and again, I think you're being a little harsh.
The wife and I just watched the ultra-deluxe special edition VHS copy of this, and while I agree that the drag-queen thing could've been done away with, we both got a lot of laughs out of it, many along the lines of "Can you believe what we just saw?!!?".
I think generally we had been led to believe that this movie is far worse than it is.  I mean, did ANYONE involved with this film take Ringo Starr's atrocious Mexican accent seriously?  That whole thing with Burton in the car was an exercise in Dada/Surrealism -- We both liked Brando in this a lot more than in "Last Tango in Paris".
In any case, we both laughed a lot, thought it was very bad & very very silly but in a harmless sort of way that some people may find amusing.

Andrew,
I read Ken Begg's review of theis dreck long ago.  And yours is a fine coda.  These sort of films are more disturbing to me than many others (and my dislike of the disturbing has been noted)... I just wonder what  the heck everyone was thinking.
"Hmm, I'm a successful and respected actor, now its time to make myself look like an ass in some artsy garbage fest."
Who did they owe that they had to do this?
"Now mr. Burton, lick the spilled drink off the glass, now ACTION."

Um.. I'm off to scrub my brain.

My favorite actor finds his way honored at badmovies.org for CANDY. What a tribute ! I still like him in ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU. : ) Not to mention THE WILD ONE, STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, BURN, MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY, THE GODFATHER, APOCALYPSE NOW, NIGHT OF THE FOLLOWING DAY, and ON THE WATERFRONT.

You know, there are some movies that should be allowed to just rot away in the vaults.

I feel no sympathy for Andrew for having watched this flick.  That is becase he subjected an entire platoon full of marines to this horror.  He is an evil man to have done this to so many innocent people.  This movie hurt.  Thanks for a good time SSgt B.

In all fairness he did tell us before we started that a film this bad needs company.  Most of us didn't make it through the first 20 minutes and I think only a hand full completed this doomed journey with him, I myself was one of the fortunate ones and left early to do something more enjoyable, like bash my head into the wall repeatedly until I passed out.
