Title: Nerds
Post by: odinn7 on July 19, 2005, 09:09:32 AM
I found this test on another message board I frequent that is also loaded with nerds and geeks (it's an arachnid board for tarantula owners). I took the test and it's mildly amusing so I thought I would put it here for everyone to see how much of a nerd you are...if you dare...
Anyway, I was somewhat surprised by my results as I expected to score slightly higher in the nerd department until I was actually taking the test at which point I realized I'm probably more of a geek than a nerd (is there a difference?).
My score:
69% scored higher (more nerdy), and
          31% scored lower (less nerdy).
What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:
Not nerdy, but definitely not hip.

I got the same thing. I've taken similar tests on which I've scored higher, but, technically speaking, those were probably geek tests (one had a question about what bands you listen to, and I checked every single one).

I got:

"50% scored higher (more nerdy), and
50% scored lower (less nerdy).

What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:

Somewhat nerdy. I mean face it, you are nerdier than about half the test takers."

65% scored higher
35% scored lower

Not nerdy, but definitely not hip.

I am depressed that I am ranked in the same category as Odinn7.

I'm the same as Menard and Odinn7. How the hell am I not hip!?

You may not want to admit this but it's something I've realized for quite some time here: we think very much alike...now, deal with your pain and come to that realization also.

Dave? How are you not hip? Are you serious? Do you want me to tell you?
Hey, by the way, when are you gonna terminate Menard? Make sure you let me know as I plan on taping the whole thing and then selling copies of the tape to everyone on the board that he's p**sed off...I shall become wealthy beyond my wildest dreams!

If you are in the same class as us, then you are definitely not hip. (:

That tape would be a bestseller if you looked around the rest of the internet for everybody else I have p**sed off. (:

Oh sweet God...the results...the results!

4% are more nerdy

96% are less nerdy

Result:

"All hail the monstrous nerd. You are by far the SUPREME NERD GOD!!!"

Excuse me guys, I have to go commit suicide now.

Uh. I got a 94% scored less nerdy.  I'm a "Supreme Nerd."

I got this

92% scored higher (more nerdy), and
8% scored lower (less nerdy).

What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:

Definitely not nerdy, you are probably cool

Take THAT nerds. My mom always said I was cool.

OK RICH! GET OFF THIS BOARD NOW! We don't allow any cool guys to hang out with us. Damn cool kids...
How could you possibly not be a nerd? You read comics and you watch bad movies...perhaps the test was malfunctioning for you.

Ulthar, yours was not a surprise to me either (you do get rather techincal on here sometimes, ya know).

Skaboi...hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...nerd.

Good lord! It's scary to think of the 4% that are nerdier than you. You even outscored Ulthar; now that's an accomplishment. (:

I still stand by the Buffy awards where I placed number 2 on the top 5 nerds list; uh...just behind Trek Geezer who placed number 1 on the list.

Nerd Test:
63% scored higher (more nerdy), and
37% scored lower (less nerdy).
What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:
Not nerdy, but definitely not hip.

Why does "nerd" automatically mean "good in math" on quizzes like this? I just happen to be a word nerd, not a number nerd.

Loser Test:
85% are cooler, and
15% are more of a loser than you.
What does this mean?
You are a loser baby, there are only a few who out-lose you!

Looks like I'm a big loser! Woohoo!

Weird Quotient:
Your score is:  89
Of all the weird test takers:
76% are more weird,
9% are just as weird, and
14% are more normal than you!

With only four choices to each question, how weird can you really be?

Dam it Menard don't post that I am going to lose my rep as  "to cool for skool". Ladies, ladies don't run off I am cool just as cool as daveblackeye15...... oh wait.

actually Derf and Odinn7 have some good points. I can't stand math and I not that good with computers but how does that equate to being a nerd? I friggin collect comic books and statues and watch B-movies. I have no life if I did I would not be posting here :)

36 was my score (36% are more nerdy than I) -- a "low ranking nerd."

So I'm low ranking.  :(

But at least I don't like Waterworld.  =)  Susan, what's your score?

Ok - I know I've never been cool and this proves it!

81% scored higher (more nerdy), and
19% scored lower (less nerdy).

What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:

Not nerdy, but then again maybe not all that cool either.

I guess im not a nerd!  I recently rebuilt my own computer, but i couldn't tell you jack about the periodic table. I taught myself german and sign language for fun, but i have bad english grammar. Apparently i'm not a nerd, but I AM a geek.....

THIS (http://www.innergeek.us/) is the ultimate geek test

i'm not telling my score  ;-)

Hmmm....

Not nerdy, but then again maybe not all that cool either.

Damn... now I don't even belong to a group at all!  WHAT AM I!!!!

Ok maybe try the Geek test:

30.76923%: Total Geek.

Phew, I was getting lost without a group to cling onto!

And I think that if I lived in America I could have scored even 'better' [depending on what you class as better] since some of those questions didn't really apply to me/didn't know about due to internationality.

I took Susans test and got Geekish tendencies the lowest Geek score. Wow I think I am a poser.

I do have somewhat geekish tendancies though.

So on the Nerd test, I'm the "SUPREME NERD GOD" but on this one only a Geek God.......

Well, gee-whiz willikers, I only scored 31.36095% on the Geek Test, making me only a Total Geek with leanings toward Major Geek (although I think everyone I went to high school with (back in the Dark Ages) might disagree and place me higher on the Geek continuum). I guess I should work on devolving my social skills and practice snorting when I laugh more...

28% are more nerdy than me
72% are less nerdy than me

That puts me mid-level.

I am also a Starfleet Captain (according to the test). Never wanted to be an Admiral, they're all corrupt.

20 years ago to be a geek was to be an outcast.  A social misfit, a smart person with no social life or skills who sat at home working on a computer back in the day when nobody had personal computers beyond a commadore 64...because the question was "What do I need with a computer?"  My brother was one such geek who before we even really understood computers had them, he also had some black phone or box he used to dialup to BBS. (Bullitin boards) We didn't really understand it at the time. I don't think I really got online until maybe 1990.

Since Bill Gates has introducted the computer to every house in america, people are more technologically inclined.    I still remember using floppies on an IBM. Now the term Geek is deemed "Cool"

We've come a long way baby.....

Dean - what's sad is at my work our IT guy took a job elsewhere in the company and he kept trying to get me to apply for his current position. I don't work in IT.

what's worse is in my job I also work with ITG in helping test our software programs to find glitches and other feed issues. Mind you this is not in my job description. This is something that eventually and gradually fell in my lap over time, nobody else in my position deals with this stuff.   Just me.

I swear i could get a job working at a McDonalds drive-through just to "get away from it all" and somehow within a years time part of my job will be working out kinks in the computer system used to order the stupid food. And I'm not any kind of computer guru either. I can't get away from it!!!!  Then again, not many people can say they worked as a SYSOP and did maintenance work on forums on CompuServe early 90's.......

Maybe that just says it all

I rated 35.89744% on Susan's test. It's because I read all of the author's mentioned, watch a ton a television, and know a ton of physics. Plus I truly enjoy trivial pursuit. I don't know computer stuff, and I don't game so that hurt me, furthermore I have been playing sports since I was 4 (being 20 now) so I don't shun sports. In fact I just got through teaching two weeks of hockey camp in South and North Carolina and boy are my arms tired. No seriously, swinging a 65 mph slapshot will take its toll over a few weeks. And to yin and yang my geekiness a little more, I have a girl friend....... but she calls me a nerd. Go figure.

Did you know that McDonalds is hiring people to take drive thru orders from call centers?

And it isn't your local Mickey D's either.
Some people who do this can literally be hundreds of miles away at a call center in another state.
(I saw all this on Dateline or some similar show)

What's the point, you typically get dinner in less than 3 minutes.  Does that mean they'll end up outsourcing those call center jobs to India?

God help us all then when we try to order a big'n'tasty

Teleportation will change my life in many ways...I'm still waiting for that too! C'mon inventors! I was promised this years ago when I was a child, let's get a move on.

I've been working on computers for 26 years. At work I'm the WAN guy. The two system admins and I are all ready to chunk it, because quite frankly this computer s**t is boring.

Anyway, to go with your theme, our catch phrase is "Would you like fries with that?" when our boss makes some idiotic request. She just rolls her eyes wthout realizing how serious we are at times.

I walked away from a job at Compaq that payed damned good money, but the work atmosphere was very oppressive. The day they took my ID and escorted me out the door you wouldn't believe the number of guys who congratulated me and said they wished they had guts enough to quit.

Trek,

You're right.  This computer s**t is boring yet I can't seem to see myself in any other line of work.  I love computers, but having to deal with customers every single day who have no idea what they are doing can wear old real quick.

All technical careers have this sort of endpoint, unfortunately (IMHO).  One of the consequences of being "good" often is that it gets less interesting until you get a hard case, because everything else is routine.

That is why it's very bad for a doctor to think that you're medically "interesting," for a surgeon to think that you are a "tough case."
