Title: KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park
Post by: Alan Smithee on July 21, 2005, 11:57:18 PM
I don't necessarily love (or like) KISS, but I'm dying to see this movie.

I wonder how bad it is.

Or if it is so bad it's good..

I own this one.  My best friend in high school was at the concert at the end of the movie; his mom won him tickets like the day-of, which is pretty cool.  It's a fun flick if you tell yourself going in not to expect much.

My brother-in-law has this flick on a crappy old VHS tape that he recorded from the Movie Channel back in the day.  Damn is this movie goofy lol!  Definitely worth seeing.  I forget what each of their special powers were: I think Gene could breathe fire, Paul could shout stars out of his eye (I think), Ace (played mostly by an African American stunt double) could teleport and Peter Chris could do...cat puns?!  Lol.    Definitely a good bad movie.

It is bad, bad, bad.  But after awhile you start to enjoy it for those very reasons.  I bought a copy of it when I was in High School....back when I was a big Kiss fan.
Just think cheezy B grade movie with the budget and directorial skills of a 1970's made for TV movie.  Which it was!

The dubbing is absolutely horrible.  Supposedly Peter Criss (the cat) was such a mumbler that they had to redub parts of his voice using someone else.  The same goes for Ace, so they just tried to cut out as many of his speaking parts as possible.  Instead he just laughs a lot.

Uhhg.  Being a budding young guitarist in high school, and a Big KISS Fan, I looked up to ole Ace.  But that laugh in this movie.  Oh Man.  Almost enough to put me off completely.

Almost.  :)

Watch it for the laughs, so inept and shot quickly to cash in on their fame you can almost hear cash register ringing as you watch. IIRC, the voice actor who did Peter Criss' parts is a very recognizeable voice from cartoons and commercials. He did the voice of Spiderman in the 80s cartoon from NBC. Just make those scenes even funnier.

If there's ever a film that belong here it's this one.
