Title: American Movie
Post by: Alan Smithee on September 04, 2005, 11:31:13 PM
A documentary about some guy making low budget, bad, horror films.

This movie is so damn funny. Funnier than many comedies these days.

And it deservered the acclaim it got.

Well worth a look.

This is definately a good movie about low budget filmmaking. Recommended viewing.

Not sure what it was this one, but I was so bored with it I ended up not finishing it (very rare for me).  Especially odd as I like the genre quite a bit.

I thought the movie was pretty funny. Plus, I see a couple of these guys around town. I think they like the publicity.

I was confused by it at first because when I rented it, I thought i was getting a mockumentary but the longer I watched the more I realized this was real. I thought it was alright, nothing extremely special.

The best part I think is all the takes of trying to smash a guys head through a cabinet door

Funny, that's the exact same way I felt when I watched "Mule Skinner Blues" (which, strangely enough, has a nearly identical description.

I remembering hearing about AM six years ago now on the old Siskel & Ebert show, when Gene was still alive (but I could be wrong). I remember Roger saying that he has actually seen Mark's movie 'Coven' and that it really was watchable.

Ok - I was just on IMDb, and there is this thing going on between people who've seen both 'American Movie' and and an older documentary of the same type called 'Demon Lover Diary' (1980) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0206681/ Some say AM is better and that DLD is fake, and others say the very reverse. I haven't seen either movie (and DLD is nearly impossible to find anyway), but is there anyone here that has seen both (or knows someone who's seen both) and could explain as to why people have these opinions?
