Title: Jigsaw / Totem
Post by: Mr. Hockstatter on September 12, 2005, 02:09:25 PM
I've been getting interested in Full Moon Pictures lately, so I picked up this DVD.

Jigsaw:  this is about some college kids who are each given a piece of a mannequin, which they are to decorate in some personal fashion.  They then get together at a bar (the classroom is being fumigated or something), they get real drunk, the mannequin is reassembled, and they tell the stories of what their various decorated pieces mean.  Some of the stories are actually quite dramatic.  Well, the mannequin comes to life and you've basically got a Friday the 13th movie from then on, but with better direction and the characters actually have some depth to them.  I thought it was pretty good.  Bizarre, but good.  The commentary track is worth a listen as well.    Quite humorous.

Totem:  This comes as a free extra feature on the Jigsaw DVD, and you get what you pay for.  Six kids are mysteriously drawn to a remote cabin, where they eventually figure out that three of them are supposed to kill the other three.  They get attacked by demonic muppets quite often.  The premise is explained by inserting footage from an old Viking movie into the middle of this movie, complete with voice over.  This movie features terrible acting (one character even speaks with such a heavy accent that you can barely understand him), a script in dire need of a complete rewrite, and of course those comical little muppets.  Somehow I found that it had a slight charm to it though.  The lead actress isn't too terribly bad, and there is a sort of nice atmosphere about it..

Haven't seen either but I think Totem came along after the bottom had really dropped out of Full Moon in terms of production budgets.
